One comment says it's clearly a plane with landing lights on.

Did local TV unwittingly screen a UFO this morning?
Were you up early enough to spot what is claimed to be a UFO in the background of a Granada TV bulletin this morning?

YouTube user kiuhy7 is convinced that’s exactly what appears behind the presenter. He told me he filmed this between 5 and 6am this morning on the ITV regional channel.

He said he was so busy filming the action in background, that he can’t recall what the story was about. Suffice to say it wasn’t flying object related.

Since he posted it on youtube just a short while ago it's been doing some flying around the interwebs across platforms and already clocked up 160 views at the time of posting.

What do you think? Did you see it too? Hoax? Plane?

Hi Antaletriangle,

The object is an aeroplane with its' headlights on.

I first realized that aeroplanes had headlights when I was around 19 years old and was trying to get some kip at Barceloneta, a small beach in the city of Barcelona, Spain.

When I was just starting to drop off, the whole beach lit up as the first of many planes were approaching, coming in to land at Barcelona airport!

Frightened the wits out of me.

If you go to the car parking at Heathrow in the early evening, you can see the queue of planes in line coming in to land with headlights ablaze.

Best regards,

Steve

I agree

Having almost been caught out a few times by identical sightings these are pretty easy for me to spot now. You can make out the wingtips of the plane in the youtube video

I live on the flightpath to Tees/Durham airport & see identical objects at least a dozen times every night. They appear to be motionless & all you can see is the very bright white light(that's because they're heading straight towards you).

Once they're close enough or bank left/right the navigation lights come into view & the outline of the aircraft becomes visible.

I have a picture somewhere of one that almost caught me out, will dig it out & post it in this thread :original:

Yeah, my wife and I got as excited as hell about 40 years ago when we saw an extremely bright light in the sky out to sea. We were living in Manurewa, a town about 15 odd miles south of Auckland in New Zealand. We stopped the car and watched for about 5 minutes as it just hung in the sky. I'd read a few days before that the local council were installing flood lights at the local sports ground and we decided that that was what we were looking at. So we drove to the grounds but there were no lights installed yet. The penny dropped that they were aircraft landing lights when they were eventually close enough for us to see that there were two of them. I didn't realise that a 747 could fly so slowly or that the lights could be visible for such a length of time. All told, they must have been in sight for between 10 and 15 minutes appearing to just be hanging stationary in the air.

I saw a similar thing years ago, and it was also airplane lites, but they were so far out, and the landing pattern so constant (i.e., a new plane every 2 minutes) that they looked stationary as one came in behind the other. Took a telescope to see what was really going on.
