This is a great video whether you like country music or not. Pretty well sums up the economy and job lay offs in the U S right now.

Its pretty bad here , what many people don't know is this state has been in a recession for the last 8 years, the statistic is 7-800,000 manufacturing jobs lost in that time, over 200,000 people have pemanently left the state and more would leave if they could sell their homes, I am taking a guess that at least over 100,000 michiganders are working out of state . There is so much talent here in this state for manufacturing.
The governor, house and senate for the state has just been letting this state crumble, last october they couldn't even balance the state budget so the only thing they could come up with was raise taxes on business 1.5 billion dollars. That took so much talent to do that the state gave everyone on the state payroll a 1% increase on the wages accross the board. And are house and senate are the highest paid in the country , 80k a year for 112 days of work, $1000.00 a month expense account and after 5 years of service free medical for the rest of their lives. I'm hearing legacy costs by 2017 wil be 10 billion.
A local world war 2 vet told me that when the amount of the working population that votes in this state exceed 50% that work for the state, city or local govt. , things are going to turn upside down. Were at 52% here now. To many non-productive people eating out of the trough, and to few productive people putting the feed in , And their voting themselfs in election after election. Checkmate.
I grew up in the detroit area, work in the shops as a kid, there was always work, not anymore. It's very sad the talent that is leaving here.

Yes it is terrible. Ontario and Michigan share a special bond as they are like sister states. Detroit and Windsor are very close. We are not nearly as bad off but certainly feeling the effects.
