Credit Card Companies Snatch Social Security Payments

April 28, 2009 · 11 Comments

Holes are appearing every day in our so-called safety net, as state and local governments, in particular, are forced to cut back on public programs. But even amidst all the budget cutting, most elders and disabled people probably feel that their monthly Social Security checks are something they can count on. Having escaped attempts at privatization under Bush, Social Security might appear secure, at least in the short term.

Maybe not. As New America Media* reports, debt collectors for credit card companies and other creditors are now going after Social Security payments, which are supposed to be exempt from garnishment in such situations. Their tactics include freezing the bank accounts into which a beneficiary’s Social Security checks are direct-deposited. When this happens, often without warning, old and disabled people find themselve suddenly without the resources to buy food and medicine, which can trigger a desperate medical crisis.

To all you, feeding on your brother and sisters for the "illuminated ones".
SHAME ON YOU! May your poor souls wake up before it is to late.

Here is another quote, from the New America Media story (http://news.newamericamedia.org/news/view_article.html?article_id=0fcf6a50390e387292b04 188fa8f834e):

"...Margot Saunders of the National Consumer Law Center estimates that 'tens of thousands of people every month,' who are elderly or disabled, are being forced into dire financial circumstances. Bank account freezes and illegal garnishments of exempt funds, including veterans’ benefits, are shredding safety nets. In her 2008 testimony before a House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security, Saunders included a long list of stories similar to Coote’s--or worse..."

If people ignore these companies thats where they will run into problems . They do have a right to contact you but YOU have the right to determine how they do it. If you ignore them and do not contact them you dishonor them and in doing then they can come after you . If you are being harassed on the phone then simply tell them that they must correspond with you by mail and no longer by telephone . Remember it is unsecured debt the card has no value it is your signature that holds the value . Read Mary Elizabeth Crofts book and visit her website. They will assist you if you are having these types of Problems

The only reason their bank accounts can be garnished is because they either had some other form of monies deposited.

You can not get accounts that have overdraft protection/any type of loan on it or deposted any other type of checks.

What you need to do is take a letter to the bank and tell them you want a garnish free account and all parties sign the letter for the file. It is being done everyday

Then no one can touch your money. People think they are safe but they will only be so if the only funds that go into the bank is your Social Security benefits.

Get anothr account for all other needs..............
