Are any of the admins aware of or looking into the obscene amount of database errors that are occurring lately? I am getting frustrated that every other time i click a link i get one. Sometimes multiple in a row. And this has been happening for quite a few days now.

Yes thanks for posting this, I too have been getting these errors. Actually I've had several in a row just yesterday.
Is this forum the next to disappear, just like camelot.......?

In my case it's not just on forum. And someone I know who has a florist shop has had problems recently, so business effected.

It's nothing to worry about. It's just the new NSA spyware. There is a fundamental incompatability between the NSA Cray Supercomputers, the Grey Supercomputers on the Dark Side of the Moon, and the World Wide Web. Reptilian technicians are working overtime to harmonize the discontinuities arising from the utilization of the computer binary code...and the instability of the reptilian entities which possess each and every personal computer. There's a reason why they call it 'the web'.

Reptilians suck at tech support. Ever try talking to one about computers?
Grays, on the other hand, are a different story.

Administrator has run some database repairs. While these were running there would have been some more errors. Some more are necessary, but the core problem may not be related to any database content, but rather the hosting performance.
Investigation continues.

Well it keeps happening. Sunday (my time) was ok, and there were no errors, but today I got hit so hard with them I could not use the forum at all when I got in to work 2.5hrs ago.
We are going to see how we can pressure the ISP/host for action.

OK, this is ridiculous, there's so many database errors happening that it's useless to even try to use the forum. Seems to be really bad during the day (US time) and not bad at all at night. Can someone fix this?

Ok...today is Monday morn. where I am.....& I have had 4 database errors in the space of 1hr........not to mention how slow it is loading each page....yesterday Sunday I had so many, I lost count.

I've been on Ickes forum and no problem.

Ok. After 5 minutes and 3 tries, I am finally getting this posted....
As of this moment I am officially done with these forums until this issue is resolved. It should not take me 30 minutes and over 20 database errors to load 4 threads. I will check back to this thread once a day until i receive notice that things are in working order.
Even better if someone wants to send out a mass PM to all members so that we receive email notice that the issue is resolved, that would be excellent.

I've gotten a dozen errors already today! It does appear to be a major problem, and I find it hard to imagine that the housing server can't handle the visitor load. I hope we find out what is going wrong soon, and if nothing comes from the site handling Avalon's forum then I hope they move it to a site that will give proper service and performance. Yes, I know that is a very big headache.

To me the Dbase is overwelled... We can all help by removing private messages and un needed messages and Pictures use Huge amounts of searchable storage. We could also visit each others profile pages and remove OLD messages... I visited RMN and Rense; they are running normally...
I've beeen deleting all private messages... Send N' Recieves
There is som Really important stuff in here. That is/are important...
Need to find away to protect that. The hard disc should not have to go
acrosss all those messages doing a search.
Well, that's what I see... I remember the OLD MLS [Real Estate] system
had the same problem. Again, that was years ago.
That's just My opinion; I could be wrong... But, U know what they say abt
opinions... They're like Butts, everyone's got one.
I'm just saying I've seen this before on older systems.

The database is not overloaded - there are only 150k posts on this board.
The problem is with the ISP. Getting technical support going is like squeezing blood out of a stone. There are plans to deal with this longer term, but right now things are not very good with the performance between vbulletin and the underlying database.
I am sorry about these problems which have gone on for a long time - much longer than they should - we are not going to give up on this.
It will probably take some time to get everything sorted out.

Here's what I do when there are many database errors:
1. I go to the new posts link in the top menu:
http://projectavalon.net/forum/search.php?do=getnew
2. I open each thread I wanna read in a new window. There is always one that is going to load.
3. I refresh the others with database errors and read the ones that loaded.
It's a cross-reading process that requires more concentration but at least I don't hang too long in front of blank pages.

@Tango: If there is a man behind the curtain tell him from me to get f*ck*d, because I have had enough of it.
Personally I don't think this was anything to do with TPTB (or TPTW) , but I must acknowledge that your instincts were good on this one - database load was a factor (it should not have been, but was).
There is no longer any way in which I can get evidence of any artificially generated load because we are now on a different host and all access to the old one is turned off - so we will never know.

Wouldn't the Man behind the ' curtain ' be the " HOST "....
You've changed your host; so whats to worry abt...
' being like this ' for forty yrs... Not really my choice....
I really do think I need to just watch, for a while, Not say
Anything... Respond... Just let it go...
You DO know the Host was just giving you a line of sfit, Right...
Don't answer that.... Please.... You guys just move forward...
I won't say anything abt circles, or triangles, squares, or other.....[wink]

Good job, switching to another host, getting it all back up.
Anchor, you mentioned 'preparedness' Keep at it, please.
I used to be in charge of a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) Computer system - 10-years in a 180-Million Cu-Ft per-day Gas Processing plant. The System had two computers running at all times, one in control, and the other updating itself from the other. Once a week I would switch the Primary to Secondary and vice-versa. But if the running Primary ever went down, the Secondary would pick up the load running the plant plus a production field spanning 40-miles of wells and pipelines.
These days, such tasks are done in a similar way with multiple drives in an array.
Does the new Host run with back-up arrays?

Now if we could just get rid of the ' agents ' working the site...
You know the one's I mean... They go to a thread, thro out a distracting
statement... Complain, abt statments made on a thread, or the subject
of the thread. complain about other members on a thread.
Anything to disssrupt a thread... They are being paid to disrupt a Site....
They're trying to get a reaction... If you see a post that makes NO sense
for the thread... "That's how they show their butt." Just watch, you'll spot
them. Right off. like they came out of No where, calls the members names.
Trooly,
Tango
