View Full Version : Proof that NASA scientists have closed minds

I think the reply to this question just about sums up the arrogant stance that NASA scientists have on the topic.

Question

There is plenty of credible evidence to support that Extraterrestrial life forms have been visiting Earth. It's up to the leaders of the world to decide when to officially acknowledge and disclose the truth. NASA Astrobiologists want to discover ET life on "their" terms, so you continue to deny the reality and ridicule UFOs. Even the Vatican has been making statements lately which seem support openness to the idea of Extraterrestrial life and how humanity should except it.

Answer

Astrobiologists have a major professional interest in extraterrestrial life. There is nothing that most astrobiologists would rather do than discover evidence of extraterrestrial life. But we are scientists and we know there is no credible evidence of UFOs as alien spacecraft or of alien visitations to Earth. Wanting it does not make it real. I strongly disagree with your characterization of extraterrestrial visitors as something that governments know but are withholding. That makes no sense. Governments are made up of people, literally millions of them, representing a wide variety of cultures, religions, and political points of view. It is inconceivable that all these millions of people from so many backgrounds would be keeping this information secret. Besides, there is no way this would be known only to governments. There are many more millions of people (astronomers and astrobiologists among them) who can see for themselves and would collect their own evidence. The fact is that neither scientists nor governments consider any current ET “evidence” credible.

Without actually doing any scientific study on the subject, they KNOW.

Answer (cont): Wanting it does not make it real. I strongly disagree with your characterization of extraterrestrial visitors as something that governments know but are withholding. The information has not, of course, been kept secret. Millions of people HAVE seen for themselves and collected their own evidence (e.g., MUFON archives). What a totally arrogant BS answer.

Unfortunately, it may also be a totally honest answer from this person's point of view. Scientists are very quick to shoot down any theory that does not correspond to the view that they are heavily invested in. They are, after all, just people. There are numerous historical examples of new theories which were decried as implausible or impossible by scientists of the day that later became the generally accepted theory. Having a closed mind seems to be a normal result of scientific training.

Scientists have yet to treat the UFO question scientifically. They don't even know what current ET evidence exists. The approach I see most often in skeptics magazines is to take a sighting and debunk it in a condescending fashion. Studying UFOs by debunking individual sightings is like studying evolution by debunking individual fossils.

Answer (cont): The fact is that neither scientists nor governments consider any current ET “evidence” credible.

At least not anybody that this dude knows. I seriously doubt that he knows every single scientist and goverment employee in the world. Or, perhaps he knows better and it's simply a lie.

NASA,
A part of a wider military complex that streches across the World and maybe into space?
Ufology needs to join force not divide which is easy to ignore.

I thought that scientists were supposed to be open-minded about things. I guess I was wrong.

I have a very credible member of the scientific community as a sibling. He's an atheist and does not believe in UFO's etc. However he is a dowser. "Hmmm, so what is the scientific basis for this?", I ask him and he just shrugs.

He however thinks that Big Foot could be a reality, due to his experiences in deep wilderness, discovering three new smaller species of amphibians, and finding tracks that were illogical in the mud. OK...

Now if a UFO hit him on the noggin, I think he would believe in that too.

Peace of Mind,

Hi Jnana, I found it here, in one of NASA's own sites . . . .

Ah, thanks.

Here's the author: David Morrison NAI Senior Scientist (http://www.nasa.gov/centers/ames/research/2007/morrison.html)

And he seems to be following in Carl Sagan's footsteps in promoting the "intelligent life is rare" point of view:

He may be an esteemed scientist, but science has become a dogma. Unfortunately, few scientists seem to recognize that there could be anything outside of the closed box they have created.

"A new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it." - Max Planck (http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Max_Planck)
