Dollar Under Scrutiny at G20 Summit

P.Parameswaran – Thu Sep 24, 2009

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AFP) – The embattled US dollar is expected to come under scrutiny at a summit of developing and industrialized nations following China-led calls to review its role as a reserve currency.

The dollar issue is bound to surface at the two-day meeting in Pittsburgh as US President Barack Obama and other leaders of the Group of 20 economies debate a new framework for tackling the so called global "economic imbalances" blamed for fuelling the latest financial crisis.

G-20 expansion, and the continued expansion of state intervention

Posted by Gary Howard on 09/25/09 1:56 PM

During the latest Global Economic Forum http://www.g20.org/about_what_is_g20.aspx conference in Pittsburgh, the forum leaders of the G-8 decided: Group of 20 Agrees on Far-Reaching Economic Plan (9/26/2009) http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/26/world/26summit.html?_r=1&hp to permanently expand the group (G-20) including more developing nations. Here is a quote from the NY Times piece on this:

Global leaders will announce Friday that the once elite club of rich industrial nations known as the Group of 7 will be permanently replaced as a global forum for economic policy by the much broader Group of 20, which includes China, Brazil, India and other fast-growing developing countries, the White House said.

The move highlights the growing economic importance of Asia and some Latin American countries, particularly since the United States and many European countries have found their banking systems crippled by an economic crisis originating in excesses in the American mortgage market.

In the videos here, we get an idea of what the federalized and militarized police in Pittsburgh really think of the First Amendment. The victims shown below are not government provocateurs or anarchists, but middle class students.

Obama: G20 brought economy back from brink :wall:

By TOM RAUM and EMMA VANDORE, Associated Press Writers – Fri Sep 25, 8:48 pm ET

PITTSBURGH – World leaders on Friday issued sweeping promises to fix a malfunctioning global economic system in hopes of heading off future financial meltdowns. President Barack Obama said actions taken so far "brought the global economy back from the brink."

"We leave here today confident and united," Obama said at the conclusion of a two-day gathering of the world's 20 top economies to deal with the worst financial crisis since the 1930s.

The leaders agreed to keep stimulus plans, which include government spending and low interest rates, generally in place in their respective countries for now to avoid derailing still-fragile recoveries. Obama had pressed for just such a course and praised the decision.
