Why honeybees are falling through the cracks
...Each year, 2.3 billion kilograms of insecticides are applied globally. Many of them are neonicitinoids, a nerve poison that prevents acetylcholine from allowing neurons to communicate with each other and with muscle tissue. In humans, it would trigger Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. One neonicitinoid, called imidacloprid, was blamed for the deaths of millions of bees in France and eventually banned there, but it's still used widely in North America.

COMMENT IN THE ARTICLE: "I'm on an organic beekeeping list of about 1,000 people, mostly Americans, and no one in the organic beekeeping world, including commercial beekeepers, is reporting colony collapse on this list."

Now how does this work? Is a bee colony organic because of it's location ie no non organic land use within range of the bees?

Monsanto...poison the Bee's, infect the Bee's, wipe out the Bee's
What are you left with?

I think it's a 2 factor thing: natural habitats and no pesticides.
Organic farming practices that retain more natural habitats and avoid the use of chemical pesticides should provide environments that serve as honeybee sanctuaries from the ravages of CCD.

I don't know much about beekeeping, but I think bees have a certain distance they fly around from the hives. I hadn't really heard about organic bee farming before, or thought about it.
I guess if you're careful about where the hives are situated, hmmm. :original:

The thing is there is not a whole lot of food left without the bees. I'm with you :mad3: Bees pollinate most of our food. It's a sad state of affairs GMO.

Oh. I re-read it and it was confusing. I edited it. No, not a beekeeper. But Carmen was saying on another thread that the bees are really overworked in commercial farms. I can't find that thread now, but there's been a lot of wondering about them on the forum.
I've been following the mysterious disappearance of bees. They often aren't found dead nearby, when they don't return to the hives. V8! The mite thing, the new name CCD (colony collapse disorder), cell phone tower theories, chemtrail fallout, electro magnetic disturbance (since they also navigate with magnetic fields) it's all pretty serious. So this was really interesting to read, that organic beekeepers on the poster's mailing list didn't see CCD.
Here, just found this too:
The majority of food is found within 2.5km of the hive, but a bee will also visit familiar flowers up to 10km away.

Here some interesting news on the possible cause of the missing USA Bees...
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/09/07/2026573.htm
Australia has been sending un-effected (mite) Bees to the US to help pollinate their Orchards for some years now. They move them from Orchard to Orchard, so there may seem to be many reasons as to why we are losing all the Bees in the world.
Most do not understand the seriousness of losing the Bees.
It will mean the end of Agriculture in many places around the world. Only those with GMF wont starve. Another possible twist in the depopulation agenda, maybe maybe not, But one things for certain we are in deep strife without the Bees...
