This is scarey!! ...

Jan. 21, 2010

The number of earthquakes experienced since Sunday at Yellowstone National Park has now risen to 901 with two of the strongest quakes occurring late Wednesday, according to scientists monitoring the situation.

The swarm of earthquakes is one of the largest ever recorded at the park.

According to the University of Utah, which has more than two dozen monitoring stations in the park, a magnitude 3.7 quake occurred at 11:01 p.m. Wednesday followed by a 3.8 quake at 11:16 p.m.

Both shocks were nine miles southeast of West Yellowstone, Mont., according to the university.

Both quakes were felt throughout Yellowstone National Park and surrounding communities.

University scientists said that the two earthquakes are part of an ongoing swarm.

They said there have been 901 quakes in the swarm ranging from 0.5 to 3.8.

This includes eight events of magnitudes larger than 3, with 68 events of magnitude 2-to-3, and 825 events of a magnitude less than 2.

They say the swarm is likely the result of a slip in pre-existing faults and not a sign of a potential volcanic eruption.

However, they say they continue to monitor the situation.

Prof. Robert B. Smith, a geophysicist at the University of Utah and one of the leading experts on earthquake and volcanic activity at Yellowstone, said that the activity is a "notable swarm."

In late December 2008 and early January 2009, Yellowstone experienced what was then the second largest earthquake swarm in its recorded seismic history. The swarm under the north end of Yellowstone Lake consisted of 813 earthquakes with magnitudes ranging up to 3.9.

The largest swarm was 3,156 earthquakes during a three month period starting on Oct. 4, 1985, according to the university. The strongest earthquake in the swarm registered a magnitude of 4.9.

The most devastating earthquake in recent history in the Yellowstone region occurred on Aug. 17, 1959, when a magnitude 7.3 earthquake hit. It was centered near Hebgen Lake, Mont., killed 28 people and caused more than $11 million in damage.

Thanks Fred yes it pretty big...people don't realize the size of this baby...if she blows its curtains...

Hey, our friends will lift us off!!!

Do you realise just how big a SUPER VOLCANO is????

If a NORMAL volcanic eruption could be placed in a matchbox
A SUPER VOLCANO would need a five story building to contain it!!

Yellowstone is a SUPER VOLCANO 100000 late for an eruption which occurs
every 600000 years
When it blows - which may be soon by what you are saying - I for one would
not want to live anywhere near CANADA or most of the Mid West US!

We are talking a foot of ash over the entire United States

Is there no way the pressure could be controlled for release?
Good luck guys - I don't think underground bunkers will help either when
there would be a few feet of volcanic ash on top of the entrance!

The predicted effects of a Yellowstone eruption are the immediate devastation of North America followed by several years of freezing weather for the whole world.
This is a global event of catastrophic proportions that's way overdue.

Carlos Barrios Eagle Clan has been giving out information from the Mayan Elders regarding Yellowstone for several years. They have even given a month: April. They also are worried about India to Pakistan and (pre-emptive, then reversed) nuclear event. Neither has to happen. However, we as as a collective are much more able to control the latter event. So many things keep knocking at the door of humanity. I wonder which one will manage to barge through.

I do not believe the entire US will be destroyed if the Y goes off, but it will impact other states/countries in terms of resources, sunlight, and possible electricity. Clean air will play a role as well.

Such is life

Here is the exact quote and a link to the entire message;

The Mayan Elders are expecting that in the laps of the next two years there will be a great explosion of magma in the Yellowstone Park, this explosion would have the effect equivalent to the destruction that several atomic bombs would cause, giving as a result a great matter of contamination and pollution.

We are also expecting the imminent attack to Syria and the possibility of an attack to Iran, as well as the trying of overthrowing and putting a stop to the Socialist Democratic Movements that are rising in Latin America, specially the one of President Chavez in Venezuela. The last predictions, we can still put a stop to, but we have to use our powerful weapons, the inner magic in each of us, our fire ceremonies, meditations and any other techniques. It is URGENT to stop the madness of war.

Last time I have seen a documentary on this mega-volcano was from the BBC some years ago. I remember them saying Yellowstone caldera had a cycle of approximately 600 000 years with 1% accuracy. They said we were due sometimes. The question is when. 1% of 600 000 is 6000, if we are due considering it didn't happen yet, it means it can be from now to 3000 years in the future.

Men received the consciousness gift of the use of fire, just before the last ice age began. We will receive what is needed before this event takes place, simply trust Creation and the evolution of consciousness.

Namaste, Steven

The Mayans have requested that we all pray, using fire medicine. This, in my limited understanding, means that we should be lighting prayer candles, and communicating with Holy Spirit and Gaia. We need to send gratitude and love, and expect a calming of the earth disruption. It is difficult not to continually check the earthquake maps...instead, I have decided to do fire medicine every time the issue crosses my mind. Anyone want to join me in saying prayers several times a day? Be careful with candles...safety first. I was told by a curanderisma to keep the candles clean, no soot, cut the wicks, and be diligent with care of the candles as a symbol of our care for ourselves and our planet. If anyone can find the information from Carols Barrios as to when to light specific colored candles, please let me know. I haven't kept up my paid membership on a certain website that has audio interviews. However, I am still very interested in this subject. I believe we can do this! Linda

GaiaLove: thank you for the map with the outline of the large area in the West of U.S. From my experience, people of other continents have no idea of how large this area truly is. Does anyone want to superimpose the size of this "zone" onto a map of Europe, or Australia for us? The perspective would be "closer to home, closer to the heart." When asking for prayer assistance, we could be more successful because more people can relate to the scope of this issue. I apologize for asking someone else to do this, but young people are so talented in this regard. I have such high expectations for our planet because of the brilliant young people I meet. Many many thanks. Linda

You guys are so lucky, to have such dedicated avalonians who will go to do on the scene reporting even in yellowstone. Yes thats right your good old pyrangello will be in west yellowstone this saturday for direct on the site reporting of the activity. I will bring a parachute with me as if this puppy goes off I will pull the rip cord as I get over illinois.

Every year for the past 15 years a bunch of us guys take our annual snowmobile trip to yellowstone, we don't usually go in the park as there are about 600 miles of trails outside of the park and that doesn't include the mountians. Some days we ride up into the mountains 10,000 ft up, you can see 100 miles in any direction on a clear day and if it gets over 32 degrees and no wind you can ride without a jacket climbing the 200-400 ft. cliff sides. The best way for me to describe riding in the mountains to you on a snowmobile is imagine riding up hill going over a jump into the air and landing into a 1000 pillows, it's a feeling like no other. So I'll be there this saturday to next saturday , live reports , can't get any better than that huh!

Joy you have to share; blissfulness you need not share — it simply surrounds you. Whoever is courageous enough to come close to you will have it. Bliss is not something that you have to do anything about; it is already there around you, it is your milieu. The blissful person — you can call him the awakened, the enlightened, you can give any name… the blissful person is simply showering his bliss continuously. Whoever is thirsty can drink of it.

I watched the Horizon program on BBC quite some time ago and it was fascinating.
The essence of it as I recall is that Super Volcanoes etc have caused bottle necks in mankind ie near extinction on several occasions. They worked that out from the rate of gene mutation in the female DNA.
Anyway why worry? Our form will have served its purpose at some point of time and exit this world we will. If its a natural disaster we will have a lot of company.

I sometimes wonder if we have it back to front ie The so called chosen ones are leaving now and going to a new world-- smiling.

Update...

Press Release...

YELLOWSTONE SUPER VOLCANO - University of Utah Seismograph Stations

This release is a continuation of information updates building upon our three previous press releases on the ongoing earthquake swarm on the west side of Yellowstone National Park.

The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reports that a pair of earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 and 3.1 occurred in the evening of January 24, 2010 in Yellowstone National Park. The first event of magnitude 3.0 occurred at 11:09 PM and was followed by a magnitude 3.1 event at 11:21 PM. Both shocks were located around 9 miles to the southeast of West Yellowstone, MT and about 10 miles to the northwest of Old Faithful, WY. Typically, events of this magnitude are felt in and around the Park, but there were no reports of these particular events being felt.

These two earthquakes are part of an ongoing swarm in Yellowstone National Park that began January 17, 2010 (1:00 PM MST). The largest earthquake in the swarm as of 9 AM MST, January 25, 2010, has been a magnitude 3.8. There have been 1,271 located earthquakes in the swarm of magnitude 0.5 to 3.8. This includes 11 events of magnitude larger than 3, with 97 events of magnitude 2 to 3, and 1,163 events of magnitude less than 2. There have been multiple personal reports of ground shaking from observers inside the Park and in surrounding areas for some of the larger events (for felt reports, please visit http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/dyfi/). Earthquake swarms are relatively common in Yellowstone.

at the Brussels conference last year Stan Deyon mentioned that he felt the New Zealand cauldera has a better chance of blowing than Yellowstone....

Although Dr. Pete Peterson said that geologists around Yellowstone were getting concerned because the ground had risen 5ft in one area of the park. Although, unless they were keeping the data top secret I couldn't find any corroborating evidence of that anywhere on the internet, it had risen a few inches but not 5ft.

Yes I heard that as well...although they say the activity increasing at Tungurahua in Ecuador ...

http://scienceblogs.com/eruptions/Tungurahua.jpg

quote...
It hasn't really made it to much of the English-speaking news, but the current eruptive activity at Tungurahua appears to be on the up-tick. Hugo Yepes of the Geophysical Institute of Ecuador suggests that a larger eruption is not out of the question (link in spanish), but right now the activity is confined to explosions (vulcanian?) and ash fall around the region, specifically on Pillates and Choglontus overnight (2/1) from the ~ 2 km / 5 000 foot plume. Looking at the specifics (link in spanish), the Geophysical Institute is reporting 32 explosions, 30 long-period seismic events and 20 episodes of volcanic tremor in the last 24 hours. Government officials have issued a number of warnings for people living near the volcano and began preparation for evacuations. You can listen to Hugo Yepes report here (in spanish).

One of the few articles in English media regarding Tungurahua was a report about the difficultly of getting people to evacuate in these situations. We've heard this before, where people don't want to leave their home/farm because thieves will steal their meager possessions and livestock. Now, that might seem crazy to you and me, to be (as one of the commenters on the article says) more worried about possessions than life, but many of the residents of this area in Ecuador live a very scant existence, so losing their livelihood (such as their animals) is tantamount to, well, death.

This is a great web site...all you need to know about Volcanic Eruptions and more...

I have a sister and two nephews living in Wyoming, so I've been watching the Yellowstone quake swarms for several years now.

Most of those making comments on this forum are already aware of the Tesla, Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) experiments relating to creating earthquakes. This is technology the "unseen government" has had for nearly one hundred years, now.

Further, it is well known that a series of low magnitude quakes will ward-off a larger quake by relieving pressure along any given faultline.

As I've been observing the quake swarms at Yellowstone, I've also been aware of a large ranch owned by our former Vice President very near the Park in Wyoming.

I just wonder if all these earthquake swarms have anything to do with protecting the assets of ol'Dickie-boy? The technical possibility is not beyond the reach of a man of his obvious power....

Rocky_Shorz

well there have been over 1300 since mid January up from 900 the year before for the same amount of time, it has been 640,000 years since the last eruption but experts are saying these are standard shifts to the faultlines and not from Magma so nothing to worry about...

According to one expert, if it blows it won't matter where you are, this would be a world wide event that would kill off the planet...

don't you love experts with so much positive to share... lol

Just a correction - I live in Cheyenne Wyoming 9 miles from the Colorado state line. DIA is 100 miles from here and Yellowstone is in the opposite corner of Wyoming (northwest). I'm guessing that makes DIA more like 500 miles from Yellowstone.
