Here is a great link to a simple setup to cook with the suns heat, it works great and would be one of the first things to try in a survival situation. It requires very little prep work or equipment and so it is very easy to work with.

I saw this one solar cooker made out of an old used tire lined with tin foil on the inside and covered with a piece of glass. I suppose one could also use some fire bricks below the tinfoil, perhaps buried with the topside exposed so there would be a flat surface for the tire to sit on the earth to help hold the heat.

How simple is that?

And here, often times food is cooked in the ground where a hole is dug, hot rocks and coals are placed in the bottom and the food (sometimes pig) is wrapped in banana, taro or tea leaves then covered with earth and left for a number of hours to cook. Lau lau (chunks of fish, pork, beef, or chicken) are wrapped in taro and then tea leaves (tied with string) to steam. The taro is almost like a spinach and is eaten, whereas the tea leaf is more of a protective covering for the food while it is steaming.

I have built and been using the CooKit solar cooker design and it works well.
(see link below)

I have found that a cast iron skillet works well with a glass lid. Most of the
time I do not use a oven plastic cooking bag around the skillet unless sun
is not strong enough. It is best to keep the cooking pan not to deep.

The PDF below will also give some ideas about how to cook different things
and the time it takes. It has plans for the CooKit design and can be built
easily with glue, aluminum foil, cardboard, cutting tool. Costs less than $7 to build.

Unfortunately winter is approaching here on the pacific northwest, cooking time would be longer, I think.
