View Full Version : Regarding TV

About 6 weeks ago I stopped watching TV. I simply don't enjoy it, even the funny programs I used to like, let alone the news. The whole idea of television seems meaningless and shallow to me. The date coincided with my completing the first degree of a 3-degree course of Bronnikov's method. I don't knowe whether the course has had anything to do with it or not. It's just that watching TV is such a waste of time for me, even if I have nothing better to do. I prefer to sit or lie down and think than watch TV. I don't know how long this state is going to last...

Hey there, as an ex 24-7 TV watching kind of zombie I once was, it has now been about 5 weeks of no TV for me too.

I do watch an occasional movie, or interesting youtube/google doco, and find my brain is like a sponge now...

I just want to soak up everything I never knew about and my learning about history, and everything inbetween has amazed me, educated me, and now I even read...I'm talking I have never read a book in over 20 years, and this year alone I have read about 8 books, I mean what the hell!? (lol in a good way :P)

NOW...

The interesting thing I am finding is the pitch and hi frequency signals the TV is transmitting, unaware of this before. IT IS LOUD. IT IS MENACING, and it seems to scramble my brain, and my dog notices the TV now more if I turn it on a comercial channel. The other thing is the picture, I mean hell it's like a strobe light now, and flickers, with extremly hypnotic, and trancey themes, I have to turn it OFF! That's right, the TV now actually causes me to turn it off as I am obviously over that addiction, and now hyper sensitive to it.

My question is, have these HD-TVs got some sort of HAARP like inbuilt construct to magnify these effects, because to me the TV seems like a micro-wave oven with the door open while on.

Thankyou for bringing this up, I am glad you like me have given this 'drug' the flick.

:)

I have thrown my tv by the window from the 7th floor 12 years ago. Ok, it's not the brightest thing to do but I was 22 years old and committed to change my life and be into action not passive. At first peoples were telling me "How can you know what's happening in the world if you don't have a TV" I was laughing in my head....
Now no one think this way anymore. Those mind manipulation boxes ain't got the same supreme attraction now that we have more interactions with the internet. Better this way, my life is full of actions.

I still watch television, but I have recently become much more selective about what I do watch (and I also now mute the commercials). My goal is to watch one hour or less of television a day -- I'm not there yet, but so far, I feel much less scattered and irritable as well as considerably calmer (and smarter!).

"Always remember that besides serving as a distraction tactic, The Powers That Be are using the media to re-wire the human brain, program belief systems into us, mold our personalities, numb us to violence and human degradation and send us in a downward spiritual spiral overall."

Very cool to hear. I have a funny story about TV/Cable.

I dumped my cable TV early 2007 as I just didn't watch it enough, as well as when I did, it was a waste of time. One of the best decisions I ever made.

SO... last week... I get this call from my cable company:
(paraphased a bit)

--

Cable guy: "Good evening my fine friend, how are you this evening?"

J: "Hi there, alright and you?"

Cable guy: "Good thanks, so we see here that you are getting internet service with us...."

J: <interrupts> "I am sorry but can I just interrupt and ask what it is you need? I am busy at the moment."

Cable guy: "Why sure my feathered friend. We have a promotion for our high-defi..." (ok, I added 'feathered' for effect)

J: "Ah thanks. Sorry I am not interested."

Cable guy: "...sorry? but let me tell you the details..."

J: "I understand sir. I am not interested."

Cable guy: "... you get free cable for 30 days sir, are you really sure you don't want something for free?"

J: "Correct."

Cable guy: "Really? Free..."

J: "I disconnected my cable last year for a reason. It is a waste of time for me. Back then, now and in the future."

Cable guy: "You are not obliged to keep it you know."

J: "Ok i am sorry but I have to go. I am sure I do not want anything free that will just waste my time. Bye bye."

---

I think the guy went home that night watching some sitcom and just couldn't fathom how I couldn't be enjoying the same thing. Oh well.

...

On a total aside, hypocritically I do enjoy movies and well-done TV series on DVD. Heroes and the new Doctor Who speaks volumes for me. Not to mention the classic "The Prisoner" series of 67-68. Love to research the symbolism. Alright, take care everyone.

I think the question is how have we all felt once turning off our TVs?

My answer is I feel more content, calm, less irritable, and more concious.

Another question comes to mind; while in the transition of dropping the TV have you found yourselves at times almost drawn back to it, as in, one minute you're standing there and your old 'mind ego' starts talking and saying, "hey you should watch some TV"?

Also I find listening to music/radio helps curb your addiction. I call your music/radio the methadone to TV. Hope this helps you TV junkies out there, just thinking of quitting the box.

I am in the same boat you are. I find TV so abrasive now! I can't stand it! The noise, the announcements, that action packed graphics....ugh! Funny thing is is that I work in television. I make commercials and other programs as my day job. It all seems so...negative now.

It happened almost instantly after reading "The Handbook for the New Paradigm". I download my past fav shows now. No commercials that way.

Oh how things change when you finally see what you are seeing!

Love you All,

We unplugged from TV four years ago and don't miss it a bit except at Thanksgiving for the Macy's Day Parade and the Rose Parade on News Year Day.

It's cheaper to purchase a TV series off the internet then to pay for a cable service. This allows us control over our viewing, protects our youngest from inappropriate TV series trailers and commercials, and provides more enjoyable time when we do watch something commercial free.

I too gave away watching anything on TV at home several years ago, and only use it with the DVD player now to play the DivX/AVI/Xvid movies i download or convert because of the larger screen.

I haven't got enough hours in the day now as it is, too busy absorbing the realities in life unfolding around me, the true news and events that mainstream TV will not air. Fast filling up my Terrabyte of hard disk space and transferring to CD/DVD

I went through a period where I turned the TV off at the plug and read books. Lots and lots of books. Felt much better for it. I've slipped recently, been watching more and more. Thanks for starting this thread to remind me what junk gets pushed into my brain. I do think it's worth keeping an eye on the news just so you know what **** TPB are pushing as reality for the masses.

Back to the books. :thumb_yello:

Edit- Hey, how can you censor the word ****? I mean words like **** and **** are fair enough, and **** is obviously a no-no, but c'mon, ****? It makes what I said look worse than it was! :biggrin2:

Hey All!

We still have the tv but I find that now we only watch the weather, pre-recorded things we're interested in seeing or DVD. The commercials are beyond annoying and the news is garbage. It's like watching a documentary of an ancient culture, a little amusing and pitiful because they seem so far behind. And any news involving the gov't usually just ticks me off...I have no use for liars and they can't do anything else. I find the most relevant and reliable news on-line.

I do find it interesting that some of the new shows have sooo much 'in your face' clues/hints in them. I've been feeling since the '80s that there was some kind of desensitization going on, first only in the movies, now it's in 'prime-time' (?????) It's either desensitization for the 'unaware' or discrediting for those who are aware, i.e. '...those silly people watch too much tv...' maybe a little of both.

Gratitude, Darlings!

Don't have time to watch TV anymore. I have very basic cable but again, I have too much going on to keep me busy that I don't need TV like I once did.

Same here...I used to put it on all the time, sometimes just for company...I find now that I prefer the quiet.

Thank you for responding to my post. I can see that I'm not alone in this matter. I am too, much calmer, more relaxed, optimistic, simply happier since the moment I stopped watching TV. I haven't had "cravings" for watching it yet. What's more, I feel like sth is keeping me from turning it on. For me, part of the veil fell down when I listened to our news programs during Russia-Georgia war. They were just lying in our face and then tried to change the commentaries after a few days. It was a proof for me. Now I spend more time on the Internet reading and watching what seems interesting to me.

Greetings to all. :wub2:

We still have our TV but my hubby and I only watch DVR'd stuff anymore, and then only 2 or 3 shows. I can't take all the negativity that's rampantly pervasive in most programs.

We did, however watch the debates just for the comedy factor.

I can't think of a more hilarious theatre then TV.

I enjoy the insights on what really is happening.

All I do is reverse everything that is said and then I know what really is going down.

Hi burgundia,

I understand what you mean. I think that once you begin to work on your spiritual side, the profanic side of life seems extremely lacklustre. I tend to also not like meaningless chit-chat, I don't really see the point, I feel as if I'm wasting my time and missing out on something 'bigger'. Does that make sense to you? It's not that I would say to somebody that I don't want to listen about their aunt Ethels' gout, it's just that I wouldn't really take it on board as such.

I think also as we develop as people, our character, we mature and so those 'even funny' programmes are not so funny anymore, especially if we've been seeing a lot of them. I used to like to watch Friends, for example, but I don't laugh so much anymore, am I turning into that miserable man who lived on the next floor down? :(

I shouldn't worry about you lack of enthusiasm for the telly, the internet is far more informative and diverse, and I'm sure that your spirit, if engineered correctly, will thank you for it.

Best regards,

Steve

I haven't had a tv for 15 years although I did watch it a little when I was back home in England recently. I have read that there will be a "government-mandated" switchover to digital TV in February 2009 - being the ever conspiracy minded person that I am, I have to wonder if that is going to increase the power of subliminal messages and/or allow the government to actually see inside your home? Why is it "government-mandated" and what's going to happen if you refuse to switch, will they come storming into your home?? Am I going to be hauled off to a FEMA camp because I don't have a tv???

I stopped watching TV many years ago, except for the occasional DVD or show just to spend time with my wife (we watch "Law & Order" together). She watches a little. I've literally gone years without even turning the thing on.

I don't miss it a bit, but then I am a reader. I love books. I get most of my news from the Internet...check the int'l press regularly. I read newspapers a couple times a week.

Programming indeed. The commercials are offensive for the most part, the comedies are insulting, the news is so preselected and predigested as to be meaningless, and the general tone is lowest-common-denom and manipulative as hell.

My children don't read, and it drives me crazy. The knowledge of the world is sitting on the shelves, and they'd rather watch TV or play electronic games. When I was a kid I spend whole days in the library - as well as outdoors. Oh well, I'm an old fogey. Old School is what kids call me today.

I see no value in TV. It's as poisonous to the mind as Kraft Macaroni & Cheese or Cialis is to the body. Even sports, which it's possible to care about passionately, is used to manipulate people into wasting huge amounts of time and spending huge amounts of money. Nope. I can live without it.

Hi freekatz,

Relax, digital TV has been going on in the US and Japan for yonks. It's just a way for companies boost sales with a new product.

Make the government switch systems then everybody who has an 'old fashioned' TV will have to buy a new modern one or at least one of those little converter boxes. it's going to happen nationally over here in Brazil too. So we have nothing to worry about.....or do we? :mfr_omg:

Also keep the global system to two or three types to save on operation costs transforming and decoding different systems for different countries.

Best regards,

Steve

I've thrown out record collections a couple of times and stopped watching broadcast/cable TV several years ago. I do have a large collection of movies and am filtering through them to remove the more violent and desensitizing ones. It is important to keep the mind busy. Worse than a movie is an idle mind. It is the devils workshop. Sitting and thinking, is not of course, being idle but that only goes so far.

On a trip recently, staying in a motel, I had the chance to watch TV and was painfully aware of just how sad it is at seducing people into a feeling that all is just fine. News programs cleverly say just enough so called negatives or conspiracy or anti-establishment rhetoric to make it seem as if they are on our side and the truth is being spoken openly. Programs like the history channel, discovery, TLC have become truly pathetic reality TV, dumb down junk. This only reinforces to me the value of just walking away.

I think this practice of personal boycott is under practiced. When a soda company uses a sugar substitute like splenda or aspartame one should consider that they are deliberately acting against your best interests and will do so every chance they get and in ways we won't always be aware of. We should walk away from the company and any and all of it's products. I know we've all been brainwashed with the idea that this righteousness is somehow religious extremism and bigoted intolerance but nothing could be further from the truth. It's basic survival 101. If someone, some company is trying to hype me for a sale (that's pretty much every company) I simple avoid or minimize doing business with them. They are blatantly demonstrating an interest in taking advantage of me. So, why trust or associate with an undesirable influence? Recently, ATT/Cingular turned off my cellphone even though the bill was up to date and electronically being paid every month. The reason? They didn't have a current mailing address for me? I gave them 24 hours to turn the service back on, 48 hours later is was still not on so I dumped them, never to return. I don't care about the extortion / credit dings they may produce. If you watch TV, one thing you can constructively do, is keep a list of companies to avoid and companies that seem fit to associate with.

I suppose I'm in the minority here. I live w/ roommates who are good guys, but not quite on the same wavelength as I am. I've been working w/ them for awhile, but as I'm sure many of you know, t.v. indeed makes it harder to convey foreign ideas.
In the mean time though, while watching something like the daily show or colbert report or olberman w/ the roommates, I can expand upon the areas that fall short or give my opinion on something that I know is patently false. Also, I find it worthwhile to see what the PTB are feeding the masses. I realise that it can be harmful, but in order to counter an argument, you must first be aware of the substance of the argument.
As an example, right now I am watching PBS's Frontline synpopsis of the Obama and McCain campaigns since their inception. PBS, of course will not reveal anything occult concerning the candidates, but it is worth investigating what the average voter considers, "the differences between these men". After watching this program, I can more adeptly address and contrast the "facts" presented, w/ someone else who has seen the same program and takes what has been said as fact.
