The power just came back on here in Victoria, BC. Apparantly it was out over half the island. Anyone else experiencing this?

Massive power outage blackens Vancouver Island

Some 95,000 people are without power after a massive outage that is affecting people on the southern half of Vancouver Island.

B.C.'s capital city is in the dark, as is everywhere south of Ladysmith.

"The power just went out, all over the place," Camille Johnson, 27, told CTV News from a restaurant in Victoria.

She said she had to pay cash when a restaurant's debit machine wouldn't take her card, and the traffic lights had also gone out.

BC Hydro's website says it's investigating why there is a massive outage, but hasn't figured out why the outage occurred.

Power is also back on here in Lake Cowichan, which on the grid is west of the north-south outage that mysteriously happened for a couple hours today. They seem to have figured out how to repair the problem very quickly but apparantly have no idea why/how it happened??!!Peculliar for sure to have this happen on a perfectly calm autumn afternoon ... no winds, no storms, no heavy rains ... which are the usual culprits when power outages occur ...:winksmiley02:
PS: Got to hang with grey whales off west coast 2day ...apparantly they've been hanging there 4 a month or so ... hold the light

That happened in detroit area and parts of Ohio about 5 years ago. Power was out for 4 days in the middle of the summer. They had some explanation about linkages to substations and stuff, but it was very weird. Sometimes I wonder it these are "tests" for massive outages, or maybe just somebody accidently flipped the wrong switch? :winksmiley02:

The power outage did not last long, but it was a bit odd that the weather was not wild nor windy. I'm about an hour north of victoria in a town called youbou and the power does go out quite regularly here, but this one did seem a bit odd. It did come back on quite quickly for our area. There does not seem to be an answer to this one.
