Are there any ham radio operators here? If something were to happen, hams are usually the only form of communitcation available. It's been proven many times during natural disasters. We can operate on batteries or solar panels if necessary. I doubt that the internet will be any good.

I operate mostly CW (morse code) on the HF bands. We have many forms of communication available by radio. I'm just stating this for those that aren't familier with ham radio. You also need a license to operate.

Well you need a licence so they know who has it and where and so on.

But for me I would get one then learn how to use it, and then IF and when **** hits the fan I would use it, but at caution, as you can still triangulate where the user is..

Morse code would be cool, but only if the wires are still in place.

I've tried to get a ham radio. The govt has outlawed them in the U.S. since 9/11.

I'll go to ebay to get mine hehehe.

The gov't has not outlawed anything to do with ham radio. See the "Amateur Radio" thread under Resources->How To Learn About Stuff.
