i saw this on one of our family holidays in the late 80's. every year we would go to manly beach, on the north shore of Sydney, for two weeks. we would always meet up with my cousins and several other outback families. it was always a time of eating and drinking for the olds and swimming and playing for us kids. after spending a full year out on the farm with no real 'luxuries' it was awesome to have two weeks at the beach/city. going to the movies, shops within walking distance, playing on the beach, etc etc. every year we would go out for dinner for my uncles birthday, and this particular year we went to the restaurant at Shelly beach, just around the way from manly. after all the standard eating eating and chatting was out of the way, the kids were free to roam the small cove for hours while the adults lived it up. this particular night we were all chasing each other around on the sand, as kids do, when someone yelled out
"look! what the bloody hell is that!?!"
we all stopped and looked up. from over the top of north head came this 'ship' .the ship was flying slowly and silently north along the coast, only a few hundred metres up. either that or it was a whole lot bigger than i give credit. there were maybe 50 people outside the restaurant and on the beach (was a big and popular place to eat), and some of the kids ran inside to get the parents. a few came out, so maybe 100 people in all saw this thing.
it was at least 5 stories high, and several football fields long. it was covered in rows of lights, like windows or portholes, as well as navigation lights. the three large aft thrusters were glowing softly, and there was no sound. at least 100 people saw this at the place i was at, and many more would had to have seen it further down the coast.
strangely enough there was a plane towing a lighted banner flying around the area for the next few nights, and all the reported sightings were attributed to that, including reports in the Manly Daily newspaper. i saw the plane and sign, and it came nowhere near what we saw. not even close.
funny thing is, whenever i ask my brother or cousins about this, they all either go blank or just say
"that was just a jumbo jet. i don't know what you are talking about"
no jets fly that close to the heads, or that low, or that quiet. i've flown in and out of Sydney hundreds of times, on local flights, interstate flights and international flights, and none of them have flown in that particular spot.
i should also mention that there is 'supposedly' a D.U.M.B/MILAB just west of Sydney, and limestone caverns are in abundance over the entire area, including the heads.
