Before anyone begins to think that surviving a nuclear catastrophe is achievable please watch 'Threads' on google. Threads shows what is the most likely scenario after England is hit by nuclear weapons - and the results make grim and uncomfortable viewing. There are many places on the net to see the awful results of nuclear affects on DNA in many generations of impaired and malformed babies. Depleted uranium weapons still being used are wreaking terrible suffering for infants and their loving parents. The only good nuclear energy sources and weapons are ones which are jettisoned as soon as humanity has found a way to rid our planet of these monstrous poisons. Why not stop making war and spend the money on finding a way to safely discard these despicable and destructive things? Not enough profit to be made on such a project. Meantime there are oh so many who live with the hell generated by this technology.
