Wildfires raged across Southern California today, destroying hundreds of homes and threatening thousands more as officials began a door-to-door search for victims who might not have made it out of a devastated mobile home park near Sylmar.

Structures or hillsides in the northern San Fernando Valley, Yorba Linda and Brea were burning out of control this afternoon and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles County.
