AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- A church is offering $100 in free groceries to people willing to turn over rifles, shotguns and handguns.

Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Akron said it collected about 580 guns Friday and still had more than 100 gift cards left to distribute Saturday.

Sponsors of the program include Acme Fresh Market grocery stores, the city of Akron, the Summit County sheriff's office and Summit County Juvenile Court.

Police checked weapons at the door of the church to make sure they were not loaded.

Church pastor Marc Neal says he hopes the program will help prevent accidental shootings.

Can you really blame families for taking the cash? I can't think of anyone I know who would starve just to keep their guns.

Then again, you have a point as it shows that the church is working in concert with the government to passively dis-arm citizens using food gift cards as bait.
