Oprahism- The Oprahfication of religion

Recently I came across some videos that debunk Oprah Winfreys New church. It seems to me that Oprah is using the new age movement as a medium, or a trigger, for religious centralization. I don't think that there is one way to live, and thus I am not religious, but I believe that each have the right to their own personal choice of religion and spirituality. So these videos are meant as a way to discern whether or not you are for Oprah's ideas or not.

yay or nay?

OK, here I am in a religious thread, which is against my religion, LOL
I barely got through the first two videos by that crackpot christian,Charles Crismier,
whoever he is. But it sounds like she might be on the right track, just because she's willing to give up her Baptist ways. I don't really know if she's going after religious centralization, I think she's just trying to get people to see another way, instead of brainwashing, oops, I mean typical church teachings.

Oh I was going to vote in the poll, but I can't because of the way it's worded.

Dan....she is on the right track...the Power of Now is not a religion
it is a way of living...that represents a more powerful way of being
not a religion :thumb_yello:

Maybe I'm just cynical, but for some reason anything Obama supports I just don't want to be a part of.

How would you word it then?

Can you edit the title for a poll?

I'm not sure if you can edit the title for the poll or not, but I would've said something like..... Are you for Oprah's views on spirituality, or, do you believe that Oprah is trying to centralize her views on spirituality.
I don't know, it's kind of tough, hmmm

The book the Power of now...has nothing to do with either one of them.
She does pick up on certain books thought...and this one was a number one seller for a very long time...perfect for her to monopolize on...that's all...the book is very good..I highly recommend it :thumb_yello:
She just took it to another level...the principal is fantastic

I personally don't see the book The Power of Now as a new age book or classify it that way either.
I see it as more of a self help book.
I started using this principal at work..and have found I have a much more productive day..and utilize time more efficiently. Things happen with much greater flow.

i absolutely resonate with what Oprah says. To me this is part of the awakening, call it New Age or whatever. maybe it is Satan that does not want such ideas to spread..:winksmiley02:Jesus's mission on earth: not to die to redeem us, but to show us the way through his example. can you imagine what BS it is if we, humans don't have to do anything, just stay the way we are because we are automatically saved by Christ's blood? do whatever you want , go to church, defend your faith even if you have to kill and you'll be fine. No effort on your part is required. It is like encouraging to stay dumb...

Red flags with Winfrey:

I see many red flags with Oprah. Power and control it is what the idiot box is all about. She sugar coats and puts it out there so millions of people gobble it up. Trust yourself and shut that mind control box off now!!! I know there is hidden agendas behind her work and they are not nice.

Oprah is a symbol of the sacred feminine (Sophia) with attributes of creation and destruction ( Androgynous). Pictured Comming stomping through the corn field ,symbolic of the harvest ,as an old battle axe, after raining down on Harp O.

O - P- RA- H = H- AR- P - O In the movie she lost hope and now she offers Hope to the world. OP RA H- is manufactured and well groomed for her purpose.

Jeez, you guys are afraid of everything. I've never seen so much fear as is rampant as on this board. We live in a free will universe. All is allowed. It is not going to hurt you. Partake or not, your choice.

Is she positive or negative in her purpose? I am trying not to use the word "good" or "bad", although positive and negative also contains duality.

I guess that depends on whether you want to move away from patriarchy (fear, authoritarianism, war) and towards a more expansive way of being (love, receptivity, giving).

Of course the latter and if this is what she stands for, then that's fine with me.

About half of this page agrees with what Oprah says. Also from what I've observed I don't see much fear, but I do see some disagreement with Oprah. The only person I see here who showed any fear was screaming NAY! nay! and thrice nay! I don't really like to point people out because it's exploitive, but I think that quote kind of illustrates my point.

Point taken. The videos were very fear based, because Christianity is quite threatened by open-mindedness. But blindly following "whatever Oprah is doing" is silly too. I do think she represents a new human consciousness though, one that is more expansive.

I agree.

The Power of Now and Eckart Tolle's other work have some good perennial wisdom in an easily understood form. Oprah's a good first stop for those who want to expand their horizons beyond organized religion. As was said above, partake if you like. I'm not a devotee (don't own a teevee), but she helps a lot of people. One has to start somewhere. Maybe religion could use a little Oprahfication, just to keep it on it's toes!:mf_popeanim: Thus spaketh I

Love it. :thumb_yello:

Actually I didn't even realize Oprah moved into the spiritual side of things. I haven't had a tv for a decade, and the last memories I have of her was when she always had that bald psychologist with a mustache on, forget his name.

So she really did start her own church?
