Sirens being tested or something....

Hey

3 times so far today I have heard a siren going off at my local crematorium, wife recons it was the old 4 min warning device from years ago, but I believe there used to be an old ww2 air raid siren there previously.

When it goes off its for about 3-4 mins at a time.

Strange.

Your wife is probably correct, must be the old warning system. There is one on the top of a police station near to my parents house. I remember that they used to test it now and then when I was growing up. Are you in a low lying area? If so, good well be a flood warning system.

We are quite away from the sea and about 40-50 mtrs above sea level.

There is one in my town that lately they have been testing at least once a month. Sounds exactly like an Air Raid siren and it's loud!

My husband & I were just talked about this. We have been hearing warning sirens as well.

I don't know if this has any relation to this, but over in Finland (when I still was living there at least) we used to have regular test of the alarm system every week at the same time, so maby they have the same tests, but little bit less freguently?

Here is a link from the BBC going back to 2004. It is comical because it states that they were going to test the flood warning siren but it was raining too heavily to do so! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...re/3557654.stm

Considering that you guys are near to the coast down in Dorset, would bet money that it was a flood warning test that was heard.

Here is a link to West Dorset District Council who carried out a study, mentions flooding possibilities http://74.125.77.132/search?q=cache:...lnk&cd=2&gl=uk
