Archeologists in China are baffled after finding a tiny Swiss watch in a 400-year-old tomb.

The watch ring was discovered as archeologists were making a documentary with two journalists from Shangsi town.

"When we tried to remove the soil wrapped around the coffin, a piece of rock suddenly dropped off and hit the ground with a metallic sound,? said Jiang Yanyu, former curator of the Guangxi Autonomous Region Museum.

"We picked up the object, and found it was a ring. After removing the covering soil and examining it further, we were shocked to see it was a watch."

The time was stopped at 10:06am, and on the back was engraved the word "Swiss", reports the People's Daily.

Local experts say they are confused as they believe the tomb had been undisturbed since it was created during the Ming dynasty 400 years ago.

They have suspended the dig and are waiting for experts to arrive from Beijing and help them unravel the mystery.

It doesn't look like a digital watch, so how can they say it stopped at 10:06am?

I feel that any unusual findings unearthed with journalists around has to be suspect.

"Okay boys, we need to sell more newspapers. Go find a sensational story."

Make no mistake, that sort of thing does happen.

Ha good point Brinty, boy those Chinese have some small fingers! That thing looks like it would hardly fit a childs finger! Oh and you get one free in every box of Cracker Jacks!

My imagination is running wild and my mind boggles :shocked:. . . . . .

"Here is the latest news: Archaelogists have discovered evidence of time travel. Sadly, all that travelled was time - not the owner." :sad:

Or maybe, a few years ago, one of a gang of tomb robbers was wearing it and they were all caught in a sudden deluge and were washed away :badmood: leaving the watch/ring as the only evidence thay had ever been there.

Another suspicious point is that there is a convention in the "photography-for-advertisement" field, where watches and clocks are photographed with the hands set at roughly 10 to 2, or 10 past 10 to give the photo a balanced look.:doh:

Yeah it does appear somewhat fishy to say the least but-yer never know-human- type footprints in devonian sandstone etc.

A Swiss reporter asked Marie Roche from the Clock Museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. She said that such Clockrings are typical for the years 1950-1960. But this one is never ever 400 years old.
