Not sure if it is the flickering screen causing the "alpha" brainwave pattern but as a qualified hypnotherapist i can say authoritatively that most people do indeed go into the "alpha" brainwave pattern which is classed as a light trance or light trancelike state whereby the critical reasoning faculty of the brain is much more easily bypassed. (In layman's terms, this means that you are much more susceptible to suggestion.)
