Your Television is a Self Hypnosis Expert

The Story of Self Hypnosis and the TV.

Do you realize that hypnosis has many forms? It is not limited to the stage antics of a hypnotized audience or even the powerful medical uses of clinical hypnosis. In fact from our earliest times to the modern day there have been skilled story tellers who have weaved mysterious tales, parables and antidotes with fact, fiction and symbolism to not only entertain the listener but to also enlighten them and change their patterns of thought, beliefs and emotions. In a similar manner Ericksonian and modern self hypnosis techniques do the same thing only they do it at a much deeper level of mind!

Just as rhymes or children's bedtime tales are told in order to not just entertain but to educate through story telling so modern self hypnosis techniques are used to educate the subconscious mind!

Movies use the principles of self hypnosis to capture their audience's imagination. In fact if they did not then they would be useless as a form of entertainment and escapism! When you watch a good movie you tend become internally involved with the characters and the plot. I'm sure you have heard critics say, or made the assumption yourself, that certain movie characters were two-dimensional and unreal. While at other times a well written script and well directed movie character played by a skilled actor becomes three-dimensional and thus believable! If you did not enter into a state of mild self-imposed hypnosis you could not get "lost" in the movie!

Likewise, a good movie will not only cause a state of self hypnosis but it will evoke specific emotional responses from us when we watch it.

Advertisers use both self hypnosis and its ability to generate emotions to their advantage! They take advantage of the fact that the viewer is already in a mild state of self hypnosis and then evoke specific emotions that they tie-in with their product!

Through another powerful self hypnosis technique, i.e. repetition, advertisers can link a chosen phrase, jingle or affirmation to certain emotional responses and their product.

Perhaps you think you are immune of these self hypnosis side-effects? Well answer this question - what is the "king of beers?" Or, finish this sentence - "Beanz meanz ......".

You mat be too young to recognize the second sentence but if you say it to any person over the age of 30 in the United Kingdom they will definitely finish the sentence for you!

Another powerful example of self hypnosis on TV is MacDonald's commercials with their famous jingle at the end. How many people have you heard singing "I'm loving it", or recited it in your own head, even though it is no longer used in their advertisements?

TV hypnotizes you! You stop being aware of your external surroundings as you become focused on what is happening on the screen. You are now in a state of self hypnosis, or light trance, and your brainwaves are displaying an alpha pattern. While in the alpha state you are highly susceptible to suggestion! As you enter this state every time you watch TV you only need to see or hear something a few times to make it permanently enter your subconscious mind.

As commercials are repeated often, and always when you are in a state of self hypnosis, you cannot help but remember key elements of them - the elements you are directed to remember!

Television can cause a state of self hypnosis. So have you ever been hypnotised by your television set?
