My take on all of this is that Billy probably did have contact with ET's. A lot of his predictions have come true and his philosophies of life are very good. Where I feel the whole thing has been distorted is in too many people trying to capitalize on him and making the story bigger than it actually was to personally profit from Billy. I believe that some of the pictures were fabricated to enhance the interest of people.
It is little wonder that Billy tried to distance himself from the outside world as he grew tired of their intentions.
I personally feel it is similar to what has happened to the story of Jesus and the manipulation by the PTB to suppress the truth.
