ON FRIDAY, October 13, 1307, hundreds of Knights Templar, the wealthy and secretive order of fighting monks, were rounded up, tortured and massacred for alleged crimes against Christianity “too horrible to contemplate”.
" The story, set in 1314, details how the Knights Templar, a group of warrior monks sworn to protect the Christian Holy Land, were captured and tortured at the end of the Crusades. The round-up of the Knights Templar on Friday, Oct 13, 1307 is believed to be the origin of the superstition of “Friday the 13th.” "

Friday the 13th has been regarded as a day of deep misfortune ever since, but the Templars did not go quietly into history
BTW I recommand you to read Focault's pendulum by Umberto Eco is a great book and deals with the Templar history among many other subjects
