If your serious about enlightenment first you have to be clear about what it is your seeking and then avoid distractions.

There are loads of books claiming to be spiritual but they are just story telling.

Eckhart Tolle "The Power of Now" would be a great place to begin.
You will find some of his video clips on "The ego what is it? and how to transcend?" thread.

There is a major difference between awakening and enlightenment.

Again if you are serious about enlightenment everything that you need to know has been shared by those who are or have been in that state in this world over thousands of years.
No need to reinvent the wheel.

U.F.O's Aliens and all that is an entirely different subject and unknown quantity and quality.

I was advised to read listen to those who are in that state not those who talk about it.
There are many who will talk. True Enlightenment is fairly rare.
Eckhart Tolle and Dr David Hawkins are in that state for sure.
