Well the knowledge has not been hidden, just not shared openly
And with good reason... Let me use a couple examples...
Atomic Bomb.... A while back a kid from high school went to the library and did some research... with that Knowledge he actually built an atomic bomb. It was fortunate that he couldn't purchase the necessary Plutonium to activate it... but the Knowledge was available for him to create it.
If he could do it... surely so could some terrorist with access to Plutonium...
Lets use Star Wars and the Force... just for 'what if' What if there existed a force that would allow you with a mere word or a gesture to kill someone? Should this knowledge be shared freely with everyone? Can you guarantee that everyone who discovers this will have enough honor and wisdom to use the ability properly?
These are extreme examples... and I highly doubt and Masonic group is teaching the ways of the Force these days
But surely you get the point? Knowledge in the wrong hands becomes a dangerous weapon.
You may disagree as to who should decide, but don't be so quick to condemn
