Ok, let's use your analogy of God as parent. As a parent myself, I expect my children to stumble and learn from their mistakes but I would not require them to grovel for my forgiveness because that has already been granted through my unconditional love for them.
I think the only challenge we face is to accept

the unconditional love of our creator and let it flow through us like an endless fountain.
