I buy my honey from a local keeper and she said she hasn't had any trouble with her bees this year, or last year or the year before.
She said the problem is with the mass production bee keepers who are (and did) imported bees with mites on them from abroad and the regular bees weren't able to fight off the mites. *I am paraphrasing but this is the gist of the conversation*
Buy locally, and help promote your local beekeepers...that way they can rebuild from the ground up.
