Gnosis5 has asked if I had anything to say about spiritual preparedness.
Thus far on this forum we have focused on the how of preparedness. This is nuts and bolts stuff and is easy. But what about the why of preparedness. Why bother? Why are we here? Why has this happened to us? Why is faith important? Some of these questions do not have objective answers. They must be answered individually because faith is personal. Faith in something is critical to preparedness because it ties directly to your will to live. This is documented among prisoners of war. Those with a deep wellspring of faith were more likely to survive than those who had no roots. We watch in horror as the past threatens to repeat itself. The words of John Fox in his Book of Martyrs and the iron willed faith unto death chronicled in the Anabaptist Bloody Theater; Martyrs Mirror, rings as true today as it did when it happened. We read these magnificent testimonies to people willing to die for their faith and forgive those who do them harm and it moved us to seek to emulate the ancestors. We joined the plain people in an effort to emulate their ideals, even if we are but a shadow of their ideal. We come from a Christian culture with it's own bloody theater. Patrick Henry in his war inevitable speech said; "What is it the gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God - I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!" This was inspired when he witnessed preachers in Culpepper Virginia scourged to death because they refused to take the kings license to preach. While being tried, without the benefit of a jury, one minister stated, "I will never submit to taking your license. I am controlled by the Holy Spirit, and authorized by God Almighty, and will not allow you to control me by a license, no matter what you may do to me. It is not my purpose to shove my trip off on you. We have answered the why to our own satisfaction. We are here to teach, and to learn where and when approprate. We offer what we have and are thankful for what is given. We would only ask that you allow the faith within you to burn strong within your hearts - what ever that means to you. I cannot say if my own faith is strong enough to face the fire without faltering. It is my prayer that no one ever be asked to pass that test. But if we are asked, that we accept the challenge with our heads held high and a prayer of thanks on our lips in a manner that those who have gone before would deem us worthy of their ranks. Having never personally met one I can only speculate the possibility of their existence in theory. |
