Hi giovonni,
Coastal errosion has been greatly accentuated here in the Northeast of Brazil for years. The local Town Halls have all carried out projects to try and stop the advance of the sea, which has eroded more than 5 meters of coastline over the last twenty years and the erosion is worsening at an alarming rate. http://revistapesquisa.fapesp.br/?ar...&bd=1&pg=3&lg= Even with these projects, the sea has destroyed two contention walls and is slowly trying to destroy a third and at high tide, the sea crashes over to the main avenue, Avenida Boa Viagem, in Recife. In Piedade, near to Recife, the coastline apartment blocks have all lost their value as nobody is managing to sell them because of the advance of the sea and in Olinda houses have been destroyed by the sea. http://pe360graus.globo.com/noticias...?newsId=138066 Best regards, Steve Quote:

And my husband is looking at buying property at Point Edwards near St Leonards, Victoria. Darn and darn again, of course I knew this before but I like my sea, darn again.

Thanks, Steve_A, Susan and Tuza, for your responses.
I really am concern about this, my sister has a cottage (on Virginia's Eastern shore on Chincoteague Is.) this year the coastal area has suffered the worst beach erosion, in local recorded history. The storms, this past season are not the usual; and I believe they mark, a forthcoming trend. Since this is a wildlife area, my sister has decided to dismantle the cottage, and will yeild to the ocean and mother nature. I guess the good side is the enormous property taxes will end? Steve_A, Thanks for the links, I think this really confirms, the Atlantic (and the Pacific on the Australian East Coast), are in for more of the same? Susan, Yes Atlantis, just like deja vu! My best to you all, gio |
