Hi Everyone,
Barak Obama seems to agree up to a point with Peter Schiff during his interview with Jay Leno yesterday. It's clear that Leno is a fan and commanded a very cordial interview, unlike my hero Stephen Sackur of 'Hardtalk' who would have given him a good grilling 'cause he hates everybody. ![]() Of course Fox News this morning were picking faults with the interview, homing in on a gaff where Obama tried to give a quip, but I think that's Fox News' role, even if they did miss the 'big picture' of the interview. For those of youwho didn't have the chance to see the interview, you can catch up at the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hrckl9mmaY Best regards, Steve |

Keeping the country distracted. Wow, 5.7 million watch Leno.
Obama Sells Economic Plan on Leno Show Oliver Burkeman in Washington The Guardian, Friday 20 March 2009 Barack Obama was preparing to make a risky break with presidential tradition last night by offering a sales pitch for his economic recovery plans in the unlikely setting of a late-night comedy show. Article continues: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009...-recovery-plan Barack Obama makes 'special Olympics' gaffe on Jay Leno's The Tonight Show Barack Obama's appearance on Jay Leno's The Tonight Show produced a damaging gaffe after the president appeared to make a disparaging comment about the 'special Olympics'. By Mark Coleman in Los Angeles Last Updated: 9:18AM GMT 20 Mar 2009 Appearing on the late night talk show, the president compared his skills at bowling to those of a handicapped athlete. Asked by Mr Leno, who hosts the show, if he had been practicing bowling in his Washington office, Mr Obama joked that his highest score was the extremely low total of 129. Quote:
Mr Obama then countered that the score was “like the Special Olympics or something”. The comments, which will inevitably call into question Mr Obama’s sensitivity skills, came as he attempted to diffuse escalating criticism over his Democratic party’s handling of the global economic crisis. Almost immediately after the programme aired, the White House issued a contrite statement. Press spokesman Bill Burton said: “The president made an off-hand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics.” Mr Obama, he added, “thinks the Special Olympics is a wonderful program that gives an opportunity for people with disabilities around the world.” Video clip of statement and article source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/barackobama/5020442/Barack-Obama-makes-special-Olympics-gaffe-on-Jay-Lenos-The-Tonight-Show.html |
