I like this guy (Abdullah Abdullah)
We know the recent election results are,.... fraudulent. Abdullah Abdullah, M.D. (Persian: عبدالله عبدالله) (born September 5,[citation needed] 1960[1]) is a politician in Afghanistan with formal training and experience in medicine. He ran as an independent candidate in the 2009 Afghan presidential election and came second with 27.8% of the total votes... Abdullah was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdullah_Abdullah I was just on the Afghanistan Website: http://www.afghangovernment.com/ Clicked 'Biographies' - got nothing (at first) except one link Afghana! - Help which I naturally clicked, to get ERROR 404 - PAGE NOT FOUND From HOST GATOR: Oops! Looks like the page you're looking for was moved or never existed. Make sure you typed the correct URL or followed a valid link. Then, clicked on 'Afghan Constitution Discussion Board - Get involved in writing this historic document' and ditto. C'mon Karzai!! FIX THE WEBSITE!!!! New election scheduled - November 7, 2009
Afghan president agrees to runoff By applying the calculations dictated in a report released Monday by the Electoral Complaints Commission, the IEC determined that Mr. Karzai received 49.67 per cent of the vote – less than the 50 per cent he needed to be declared the winner. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle1330447/ |

Hmmmm.....
NATO Chief Presses for Snap Decision on Afghan Escalation Calls for Broad Endorsement of Gen. McChrystal's Plan by Jason Ditz, October 19, 2009 In comments issued today, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen urged the nation’s 28 member states to quickly endorse Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s plan for a massive escalation in Afghanistan. http://news.antiwar.com/2009/10/19/n...an-escalation/ The question about Obama and Afghanistan: When? When will there be announcement? 9:36 AM Oct 19, 2009 The question is relevant today, after Obama aides went on Sunday chat shows to say the president may now wait until the dispute over the Afghanistan election is resolved... Washington Post columnist Jackson Diehl writes that European officials are anxious to see if Obama signs off on military requests for more troops or goes on a different path. http://content.usatoday.com/communit...10/620000054/1 |

What is NATO pushing for? Are the requested troops a peacekeeping effort, what?! Americans don't peace keep. {sorry} And looking at the opinion polls for support of this war, the country's not democratic either, at least as reflected by ... whom?!...
Obama’s chance to exit Afghanistan Only 26 per cent of Americans are in favour of the war “The maximum estimate is less than 100 (al-Qaida members) operating in (Afghanistan), no bases, no ability to launch attacks on us or our allies,” said President Obama’s national security adviser, Gen. James Jones, in a recent interview with CNN. In that case, why does the U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley McChrystal, want another 40,000 troops? http://www.ffwdweekly.com/article/ne...hanistan-4624/ |

The Nov 7 election was cancelled.
Karzai, and Abdullah, should consider legalizing poppies. The farmers are really skilled farmers - what happens after that is another *mule* story - BUT there is a good market for medicinal opiates. It would make the Taliban happy too - to export it. That is, if they're still anti-drug. *****http://www.poppyformedicine.net/***** I do NOT like Karzai's deadline 2047 < OK I'm exaggerating. I thought this was an interesting initiative. A church (or any institution) is as good as the people in it. I hope it moves the process.
__________________________________________________ _ Churches call for Afghanistan peace mission Richard Foot, Canwest News Service: Thursday, December 10, 2009 Canada should launch a "peace mission" to Afghanistan aimed at ending the war there through diplomatic and political means, says a report issued today by the Canadian Council of Churches, the country's largest ecumenical Christian association. The group says military efforts in Afghanistan over the past decade have failed — both in bringing the leaders of the 9/11 attacks to justice, and in bringing "sustainable security to the people of Afghanistan." http://news.globaltv.com/world/Churc...876/story.html |

Yet another bill Posted by Matt Hawes on 12/15/09 11:08 PM Last updated 12/16/09 10:13 AM In addition to the legislation mentioned by John Tate below, we've received word from sources on the Hill that House leadership may try to ram through a so-called "jobs" bill tomorrow that could total as much as $75 billion. The legislation is so rushed that, as of this writing (late Tuesday night), it doesn't even have an H.R. number. So... raise the debt limit and turn right around and spend some more money. Merry Christmas, America. While calling your rep: http://www.campaignforliberty.com/congress.php about the Defense Appropriations Bill and the debt ceiling, urge him to oppose immediately throwing yet more taxpayer money out the window. Update: Well, the bill was finally posted - on the rules committee website at 11:30 last night! Whew. Glad they'll have lots of time to read all that before voting today. Source: http://www.campaignforliberty.com/blog.php?view=30369 What will Congress hide in the Defense Appropriations Bill? Posted by John Tate on 12/15/09 10:59 PM While Americans busy themselves with holiday preparations, the weeks surrounding Congress' Christmas break can often be the most dangerous time for our freedoms. After all, we were given the "gift" of our Federal Reserve System just a couple of days before Christmas in 1913. Part of the legislation being considered before Congress adjourns this year is the $636 billion Defense Appropriations bill. It's bad enough that this Congress, which was elected by a country tired of our endless nation-building, is about to vote to keep overextending our military and involving it in unconstitutional interventions, but lawmakers are seeking to include much more than defense items in this appropriations package. According to the latest reports, legislators may attempt to tack on language forcing monopoly bargaining on every policeman, firefighter, and emergency medical technician (EMT) in the country, as well as extending the PATRIOT Act. Canadian news networks are reporting the deaths of 4 Canadian soldiers and 1 journalist. I think the number of journalists killed in 2009 is about 100. I just saw this article though, which has a bit more detail, i.e. 8 CIA agents were also killed. There was nothing about it in Canadian news.
________________________________________ 8 US CIA Agents, 5 Canadians Killed in Afghanistan Forward Operating Base "Gym" Actually a CIA Surveillance Center by Jason Ditz, December 30, 2009 More details have emerged in this morning’s perplexing story, in which a suicide bomber attacked what officials called a “gym” on a military base in Khost Province, killing eight Americans the military identified as “civilians.” ...Moreover, the “gym” at the Forward Operating Base was actually being used as a CIA “operations and surveillance center,” explaining the conspicuous lack of military personnel harmed in the attack. http://news.antiwar.com/2009/12/30/e...be-cia-agents/ ![]() |

Getting to know you: General Stanley McChrystal
Cheney's Chief Assassin Is Now Obama's Commander in Afghanistan Obama's appointment of General Stanley McChrystal reflects a grave new military escalation of his Afghanistan war. McChrystal was a special favorite of Rumsfeld and Cheney because he was in charge of the ‘direct action’ forces of the ‘Special Missions Units. ‘Direct Action’ operative are the death-squads and torturers and their only engagement with the local population is to terrorize, and not to propagandize. They engage in ‘propaganda of the dead’, assassinating local leaders to ‘teach’ the locals to obey and submit to the occupation. http://www.alternet.org/story/140068 |
