Question about lights in the sky

First off let me say hello to everybody, im new here.

Second i have a question and looking for some input on this.

Back sometime between 1994 - 96 i was outside with 2 friends, it was early morning hours, somewhere between 3 and 5 am. We noticed that it got brighter outside and when we looked around the only way i know how to describe this was the sky almost looked like it blew up. it was blue, green, purple, and blew colors that lasted about 30 - 45 seconds. this happened 2 times maybe 10 - 15 seconds apart.

When this happend all the power in the neighborhood didn't go out but it dimmed for a few seconds.

This took place in Fort Lauderdale about 2 miles away from the beach.

i found this really strange but never heard anything about it.

any thoughts as to what this may have been?
This has been in my head ever since this happend.
