we need a chat room

I would love to be able to sit and natter in real time with folks here that would be great.

Now its subscription can a little bit of our dosh go onto a chat room?

my understanding is that this Vbulletin forum software only allows for one chat box.

The staff use the current chat box for staff work.

It would be nice to have another, but I just don't think it can be done without seriously affecting the performance of the whole forum.

There are lots of ways to set up a chatroom. It doesn't need to be V Bulletin. When I get a chance I'll check with the person hosting the indigo-adults free chat room.

But - I think I also heard Joomla, our library program might be able to host chats.

Anything ever happen with this? Voxly can be linked to and it has voice and keyboard chat, very nice.

I'll open a room for a bit in case anyone wants to chat a bit.

We could always find a good IRC server and set up a chatroom there. This is such a great idea though.

for what it's worth, I own and operate a small IRC network with 2 client servers + services and stats.

I tried the tinychat and though it seems a nice stable interface it lacks alot of what a IRC network offers. This idea has been tossed around before and with some support it would work very well for us.

Here is what I can offer at my expense (time and otherwise):

A small network of IRC servers capabale of supporting 5000 simultaneous users

Services to provide User and Channel registration as well as a memo system and of course network security.

Accessed easily with a IRC client like mIRC or Xchat or through 2 existing web interfaces http://2012info.ca/chat/ or http://maya.2012info.ca/chat/

Posting of public conversations to a web page for near realtime recording of everything said in main channels (still coding it but will be ready in a week or so)

Anyone want to help build this up?

Hmmmmm....

Have thought that the chat room was nixes due to server space issues and slowing down the site....

perhaps that has changed with the new server....
