Just a note to any lurkers;

This Lounge thread is not a 'goof off' music zone for alcoholics! Though sometimes can appear as such.

We have way too much fun here alot of the time but if you care to look through the pages you will discover an astonishing amount of top-notch research and informational videos, book reviews and links to ebooks, pictures scattered through the music, art, jokes, recepies and conversations.

Dantheman62 is the honorary bartender (we like to party here) and Brinty can often be found under the tables or making people laugh.

Boudicca is head chef, but also a wonderful DJ and educator as is BROOK.

Every single person that has ever posted here has brought something unique and all of it is greatly appreciated.

This is all about genuine people having big-hearted interaction.

Sharing and caring is what AVALON LOUNGE is all about, new people are always cherished.

No question is a silly one they say, so I have one. What is the reason for all members using avatars instead of their own faces? Is it out of vogue? Is it a privacy thing? I wonder...

I must confess es7ter that I have often pondered that myself. I get a feeling that it furnishes a feeling of anonymity for them just in case they are recognized by somebody they know in real life. Or their views expressed on this site may be quite different from the ones they express in their every day life.

Oh, by the way, it's good to see another Aussie here.

Personally, I express some of the same things in real life as I do here. Just not with most people I know.

The anonymity factor is an advantage. Consider that some people who come here are aware that their posts are monitored because they talk about very specific things with keywords that attract attention from surveillance networks, and that they're identity is crucial to safety if they wanna continue talking about what they might know.

Granted, anybody who can systematically monitor all your activity on the net and trace your physical location could probably also figure out identity.

But without a picture or file that I willingly hand out, it'll certainly make their job a bit more difficult. The less profile data; the better.

Otherwise anyone who comes here talking casually, myself included, should have no worries with letting identity loose. But I like to be anonymous anyway, its more fun and keeps the mystery alive
