• Page 16: States that if you have insurance at the time of the bill becoming law and change, you will be required to take a similar plan. If that is not available, you will be required to take the gov option!
• Page 22: Mandates audits of all employers that self-insure!
• Page 29: Admission: your health care will be rationed!
• Page 30: A government committee will decide what treatments and benefits you get (and, unlike an insurer, there will be no appeals process)
• Page 42: The "Health Choices Commissioner" will decide health benefits for you. You will have no choice. None.
• Page 50: All non-US citizens, illegal or not, will be provided with free healthcare services.

Here is more information about the health legislation currently under consideration by our congressmen.

It occurred to me that I could share with you my personal experience being in a government-run health care system. Since my husband is active-duty Air Force, I can receive medical care on base from a military doctor. I also have the option of going off base for my care and paying out of pocket. Thank goodness that is an option, because the doctors on base are not allowed to give me the medical care that I require. You see, though I am otherwise very healthy and never get sick, I have thyroid disease and have to take thyroid hormone every day. Without it, I would die. I was originally diagnosed by a military doctor, and he prescribed Synthroid. Synthroid is a brand name synthetic hormone. It is the only thyroid medication that military doctors are allowed to prescribe because the Department of Defense has a contract with the pharmaceutical company that manufactures Synthroid. Military doctors aren’t even allowed to prescribe the generic equivalent, even though the FDA has certified that they are identical, because of that contract.

Synthroid did not work for me. I was actually much WORSE on Synthroid than I had been on nothing. Tony did a lot of research and found that for many thyroid patients, natural thyroid works better. He took me from doctor to doctor, trying to get someone to take care of me. Finally, a military doctor switched me over to Armour natural thyroid. Armour restored me so I was completely healthy and normal again. But it destroyed the doctor. He was actually court-martialed and sent to a military prison for a year! Why? Because the government says he can prescribe Synthroid to his thyroid patients, nothing else. He gave me the medicine I needed, and he went to jail for it.

I still need care (thyroid disease is a life-long issue), but none of the military doctors can care for me. So Tony located a civilian doctor to treat me and prescribe my Armour. We have to pay for my treatment; my government medical insurance doesn’t cover my choice of doctor. When we were stationed in Germany, I couldn’t get Armour at all, because the European socialized medical system forces all European thyroid patients to take Synthroid, and the control is so extensive that people can’t obtain Armour at all. I flew back to the US to see my doctor and get Armour.

This isn’t the only problem we have had with our government medical care. When Michael was a toddler, he developed really severe eczema. I took him to the doctor on base and she prescribed a steroidal cream. But when I put the cream on Michael, he would scream in pain. I kept taking him back, and the doctor kept telling me that this was the medicine he needed and I just had to put it on him. I asked her to give Michael a referral to see a dermatologist, but she refused. She informed me that she had already prescribed the medicine Michael needed and there was no reason for him to see a specialist.

Now, in the military medical system, you are assigned to a Primary Care Provider. And this is your doctor. If you don’t like him, you have to get permission to switch, and you are not allowed to switch more than once. So we were stuck with this doctor until the Air Force finally moved her to a new base. When she was gone, I took Michael in to see his new provider. This doctor took one look at Michael and said he needed a dermatologist! I took Michael to the dermatologist and got the right kind of medicine, and his skin cleared up within a week. But Michael had suffered for two years waiting for that referral to see the specialist he needed.

Something similar happened to Eric. He suffered from horrific nosebleeds; sometimes he would get several per day and was losing so much blood he was anemic. We took him in to get a referral to see an ENT, but the pediatrician told us that there was nothing wrong with him and that nosebleeds were a common childhood malady he would simply outgrow. He refused to give us a referral to an ENT. 8 years later, the problem hadn’t gotten any better, and we took Eric to an ENT only to find he had an abnormal blood vessel in each nostril that was causing the bleeding. Surgery corrected the abnormality and he no longer has nosebleeds. Had the doctor sent us to an ENT when we asked, we could have avoided eight years of a big bloody anemic mess.

Tony has been in the Air Force for 20 years now, and our story is not unusual. We hear this same kind of thing all the time from our friends everywhere we are sent. People wait for years trying to get the referrals they need. Why? Because it costs the government money to send you to a specialist, and they don’t want to pay for it. As a result, many people end up going outside the system and paying for the care themselves, the way I do with my thyroid situation.

I suspect that I will no longer have that option if this legislation becomes law. Did you know that under this bill, ALL doctors will be part of the government system? The government will dictate the salaries of ALL doctors, and the government will also dictate the standard of care that ALL patients will receive. Given that the government already has a contract with one pharmaceutical company to force all military thyroid patients to take Synthroid, I have no doubt that I won’t be able to get Armour anywhere if this bill goes through. And what about the prescriptions you take? How long do you think it will be before the government signs a contract that eliminates the medicine you require? Will you be able to see a dermatologist if you need one? How many years will you have to wait to get the services you need? How many doctors will be sent to jail for trying to give you the care that they believe will help you, rather than the government-mandated care? How long do you think it will take for the government to outlaw your herbal and nutritional supplements? Don’t scoff; various congressmen have submitted legislation on this matter many times in the past (they are lobbied by the pharmaceutical companies, and lots of campaign cash is handed over). This legislation already contains a section about what you should eat, so how long do you think it will take for the government to outlaw foods it deems unhealthy? You think I’m exaggerating? Given that the cap-and-trade bill had a provision for taxing cow flatulence to stop global warming, do you really think the government won’t hesitate to control your food supply?

Oh yeah, and here is the best part of the legislation: did you know that the bill provides an exception for Congressmen? They are exempt from the health care system they are forcing on the rest of us!

Demand better. Contact your legislators TODAY and demand they throw out this horrible legislation. And demand that they subject themselves to the same laws they want to force on us. They are not special! All men are created equal, and Congress should NOT be above the law.

My friend Gary Bauer has proposed some questions for you to ask your Senators and Representative about ObamaCare. I'm asking all AFA supporters to get a group together and go to your Senators and Representative offices and ask these questions. Most Senators and Representatives have Townhall meetings in their district during their August break. Get the schedule and attend the meetings. Urge others to do the same. Have different groups at different locations to ask these questions to make sure the Congressman is consistent.

Here are Gary's recommendations. Yesterday, President Obama conceded that there probably won't be a vote on healthcare reform until "the end of September or the middle of October." That means you have August to attend town hall meetings with your representative and senators, stop by their congressional offices, write letters to the editor and educate your friends and family members about the dangers of socialized medicine. To help you in that effort, we’ve produced a short list of key concerns and questions, which are copied below. Please share this report with like-minded folks and those who may be undecided and willing to listen. Thank you for everything you do to defend our shared values in your community!


1. THE PEOPLE ARE BEING IGNORED
According to a recent poll, just 23% of voters believe healthcare reform legislation will lower costs, while 53% believe it will lead to more expensive care. By a margin of 50% to 23%, voters believe that "reform" legislation will make the quality of care decline. And while voters believe they will get worse care at higher costs, 78% also believe that healthcare reform will result in middle class tax hikes. In addition, a recent Fox News poll found that 91% of those surveyed have health insurance, 84% said that the quality of their health insurance was either excellent or good and 83% said the quality of health care they receive from their private insurance is either good or excellent. And only 12% of those surveyed said reforming health care was the most important issue Congress should be working on right now. Question for your Congressmen: Why are you and the White House rushing this bill through Congress and ignoring the concerns of the American people?

2. QUALITY CARE
American healthcare is better than that in European countries with socialized medicine. The German breast cancer mortality rate is 52% higher than in the United States. Prostate cancer mortality is 604% higher in the United Kingdom and 457% higher in Norway than in the United States. Canadian healthcare lags behind the United States too. Canadian patients wait twice as long to see a specialist for hip surgery or cancer than we do in the United States. Most Americans say they are satisfied with the U.S. health care system, but more than 70% of Germans, Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders and Britons say that their systems need "fundamental change" or "complete rebuilding." In an editorial on July 26th, the Washington Post criticized President Obama for not "leveling about the consequences of change" when it comes to healthcare costs versus quality. Here's what the Post wrote: "The Congressional Budget Office estimates that new technology accounts for about half the increase in health-care costs over the past several decades. This, for the most part, is a good thing. Adjusted for inflation, health-care spending per person is six times what it was 40 years ago. But no one today would settle for 1960s-style medicine."

Question for your Congressmen: Why are you trying to force us in the direction of more government involvement in healthcare when everywhere government-run healthcare has been tried, quality declines and care is rationed?

3. COST
The United States faces a debt crisis. According to many analysts, including Senator Judd Gregg (who is so respected by President Obama that he offered Gregg the post of Secretary of Commerce), the Obama budget will give us $11 trillion of debt at the end of five years and $17 trillion of debt at the end of ten years. Question for your Congressmen: Why is Congress and the president pushing through a healthcare bill that would cost another trillion dollars over the next ten years? Shouldn't we concentrate on getting the debt under control first?

4. RATIONING CARE
According to a July 15th report by The Hill, "The House bill would be paid for by roughly $500 billion in Medicare and Medicaid cuts..." These "cuts" would come as millions of Americans are retiring. Logic suggests that if we are "cutting" hundreds of billions of dollars healthcare would have to be limited or rationed in someway to accommodate more people. And seniors would be most affected by Medicare cuts.

In addition, advisors to President Obama, such as Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, brother of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, have suggested that healthcare should be rationed to certain individuals. Dr. Emanuel once wrote that "services provided to individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens...should not be guaranteed. An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia."

Question for your Congressmen: How can government promise to do more with less? Will you oppose any healthcare reform bill that in any way limits my access to healthcare or medicines recommended by my doctor?

5. MORE BURDENS ON SMALL BUSINESSES
Despite a 9.5% (and rising) unemployment rate, the healthcare bill in the House imposes a new 8% payroll tax on small businesses with payrolls of $400,000 or more that don't provide health insurance for their employees. This is in addition to the current 15% payroll tax. What this means is that any employer with a payroll of $400,000 dollars or higher will have to pay at least 25% above the salary just to hire someone. Common sense tells you that any struggling small business will likely lay off workers to avoid this additional tax. On the other hand, if the tax is cheaper than the cost of health insurance, larger businesses may opt to cancel their health insurance, forcing employees into the government’s "public option," and simply pay the 8% fine. Question for your Congressmen: Why are you imposing additional mandates and taxes on small businesses, which create the overwhelming majority of new jobs, in the middle of a severe recession?

6. EUTHANASIA
In a recent New York Post column, Betsy McCaughey, a former lieutenant governor of New York and health care expert, wrote:

"One troubling provision of the House bill compels seniors to submit to a counseling session every five years (and more often if they become sick or go into a nursing home) about alternatives for end-of-life care (House bill, p. 425-430). The sessions cover highly sensitive matters such as whether to receive antibiotics and 'the use of artificially administered nutrition and hydration.' This mandate invites abuse, and seniors could easily be pushed to refuse care."

Question for your Congressmen: Will you oppose any healthcare reform bill that in any way promotes euthanasia?

7. PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS
President Obama has repeatedly said that "no insurance company will be allowed to deny you coverage because of a pre-existing medical condition." That sounds wonderful until you apply common sense, which is in short supply in Washington. What if we made a law that allowed you to buy car insurance after you got into an accident and that required the insurance company to pay for the damage? Wouldn’t many people just wait for an accident before buying insurance? Why wouldn’t many Americans wait until they were sick to buy health insurance?

Question for your Congressmen: Isn't it clear that this provision would drive up the cost of health insurance for everyone?

8. LOSS OF FREEDOM
The healthcare reform legislation under consideration in the House will eventually force all Americans into a government-approved plan. After a five-year grace period, every new insurance policy will have to comply with government mandates, and any policy changes – "altering co-pays, deductibles, or even switching coverage for this or that drug" – invalidates your previous coverage and forces you to choose a government "qualified" plan. In addition, the House plan mandates coverage for every individual. If you are self-employed or choose not buy insurance for whatever reason, the bill imposes a "healthcare tax" of 2.5% of your income. Question for your Congressmen: Why do you believe bureaucrats can make better decisions than me about what kind of health insurance I should have? And will you guarantee that any healthcare reform bill passed by Congress will always allow me to choose my own doctor?

9. RACIAL PREFERENCES
Do you care about the race of a doctor who is getting ready to operate on you? Of course not. Most Americans want their doctor to be the best professional available regardless of race or ethnic background. But congressional liberals have a different idea. On page 909 of the House bill, grants to medical schools will be awarded "to entities that have a demonstrated record of the following...training individuals who are from underrepresented minority groups or disadvantaged backgrounds." Question for your Congressmen: Why are you throwing affirmative action/racial set asides into a healthcare reform bill?

10. ABORTION
Pro-choice groups, like NARAL and Planned Parenthood, are demanding that abortion be covered in any healthcare reform bill. In a recent interview with Politico, Laurie Rubiner, vice president for public policy and advocacy at Planned Parenthood, defends this demand by saying, "the alternative would be slashing benefits for millions of women who currently have [private] coverage for abortions..." In addition, key administration officials refuse to rule out abortion coverage. When asked on Fox News Sunday whether taxpayer money would go to pay for abortions, White House Budget Director Peter Orszag replied, "I am not prepared to say explicitly that right now. It's obviously a controversial issue, and it's one of the questions that is playing out in this debate."

Pro-life senators on the Senate's Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee forced a roll call vote on the issue when Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) attempted to add an amendment to the healthcare bill that would, in her words, "include women's health clinics that provide comprehensive services...deemed medically necessary or appropriate." She admitted that such "health clinics" would include Planned Parenthood. The pro-life amendment to prohibit funding of abortion lost 11-to-12.

Question for your Congressmen: Will you oppose any healthcare reform bill that uses my tax dollars to pay for abortions?

I know this is long BUT we have GOT to read this and respond. It is frightening- and our unresponsiveness to this will have a terrible impact on all of us and generations to come. To call your congressmen is easy. Millions of illegals covered under Obama healthcare

The ranking Republican on the House Subcommittee on Immigration says Democrats have refused to pass an amendment that would prevent illegal aliens from being covered in the Obama healthcare plan.

Democrats recently defeated a Republican-backed amendment offered by Rep. Dean Heller (R-Nevada) that would have prevented illegal immigrants from receiving government-subsidized healthcare under the proposed plan backed by House Democrats and President Obama.

Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa), the ranking member on the House Immigration Subcommittee, finds it outrageous that Democrats want to force hardworking Americans to foot the healthcare bill for those who are in the country illegally.

Sorry P&L I have to do this it`s a one sided view of what goes on up here.

First lets look at the Dr. David George Grazter (born September 5, 1974 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadian psychiatrist, conservative columnist, author, and a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. He is a critic of the Canadian health care system, was a key health care policy advisor to Rudy Giuliani's 2008 presidential campaign and the source of false and misleading cancer statistics repeated for months by Giuliani, and is an opponent of U.S. President Barack Obama's health care reform proposals.

During his second year of medical school, Gratzer began writing a book about problems with the Canadian health care system and his proposed solution--medical savings accounts, but couldn't get anyone interested. Rejection letters piled up after he completed the book and he had doubts about his ability to get taken seriously until his third year of medical school, when Robert Lecker, professor of English at McGill University and co-founder of ECW Press agreed to publish his book. In August 1999, during his fourth year of medical school, ECW Press published the 24-year-old Gratzer's first book, Code Blue: Reviving Canada's Health Care System

In September 2002, Gratzer was one of 25 Canadians under age 30 featured in a Maclean's "Leaders of Tomorrow" cover story.[7] In 2002, while still a psychiatry resident, Gratzer joined the Manhattan Institute as a senior fellow

According to a June 29, 2009 front-page article in Canada's Toronto Star, "armed with a stack of statistics about patient wait lists in Canada, and a fusillade of dire warnings about the life-threatening consequences of government-managed care," Gratzer "has emerged as the go-to expert witness for GOP lawmakers hoping to sow doubt in Congress about the wisdom of embracing Mr. Obama's call for a public-health-insurance option to compete with private insurers."The article notes that arguments like Gratzer's "played a key role in the defeat 15 years ago of former president Bill Clinton's plan to reform U. S. health care."

So the good doctor, who I also might add is a Psychiatrist the only group of doctors in the world who have never cured a patient. He writes a book in school and no one takes him serious and he can`t get it published until 4 yr of med school when he draws the attention of the Manhattan Institute

Lets look at the Manhattan Institute they are a Think Tank their sole purpose is to impose the will of a small minority over a large majority and will look to find any and all ways to accomplish this.

here is their health policy or at least the part they wish to make public at this time


Benjamin Zycher, Senior Fellow at Manhattan Institute's Center for Medical Progress, opposes allowing the federal government to negotiate prices in the Medicare Part D prescription drug program, and argues that patients and their doctors should make their own decisions to choose drugs like Vioxx, rather than having the U.S. Food and Drug Administration decide on the basis of "bureaucratized ... scientific study."
The Manhattan Institute issued a report by Frank Lichtenberg, a business professor at Columbia University, on the adverse effects of drug price negotiating in the Veterans Administration. Lichtenberg said that the VA National Formulary excludes many new drugs. Only 38% of drugs approved in the 1990s and 19% of the drugs approved since 2000 are on the formulary. He also argues that the life expectancy of veterans "may have declined" as a result.

So by way of this policy and the 20/20 episode we already see a clash . Where the 20/20 view shows us the American system provides better health care and greater innovation to price medical care out of reach of the common people the policy of the Manhattan Institute does the opposite and in fact drugs that could and most likely would assist those in need of them are deliberately with held from those that could benefit from them.

Where does the glorious Manhattan Institute gets its funding ? The Manhattan Institute received $19,470,416 in grants from 1985-2005, from foundations such as the Koch Family Foundations, the John M. Olin Foundation, Inc., the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation, the Scaife Foundations, and the Smith Richardson Foundation. The Manhattan Institute does not disclose its corporate funding, but the Capital Research Center listed its contributors as Bristol-Myers Squibb, Exxon Mobil, Chase Manhattan, Cigna, Sprint, Reliant Energy, Lincoln Financial Group Foundation, and Merill Lynch.

I get the feeling the good doctor likes to make money and the fact that their are less restrictions on doctors making it in America he makes a perfect fit for the right wing policy driving machine . So what better way to kill the socialized medical threat to the giant insurance companies then trot out a Canadian doctor who felt slighted by the Canadian way and have him say the social medicine way is the wrong way. Of course these shows are going to listen .

So bottom line on the Doctor he is paid by a Think Tank who`s only purpose is to shape public policy which is just another way of deceiving people or perpetuate this system of GREED

As for long lines of Dentist visits I highly doubt that this is the norm in Great Britain I have never seen it in Canada . Yes we have waits in Canada the reason for these waits is because of circumstances beyond our control the biggest problem we face here is a doctor shortage in rural locations . i feel that those getting the education here should upon graduation be given some incentive to take up practice in these rural setting before deciding to move to the big city or as many do run for the unregulated border and American Medicinal Greed

While protesting health care "reform" and collecting signatures on Capitol Hill, Young Americans for Liberty members were forced to leave by DC police due to a lack of a permit. The SWAT officer cited 36 CFR 7.96 under federal regulations to force the young group of liberty lovers to stop their freedom advancing activities.
