Hello, Everyone :sun: —

Well, thank you! Where I am on this ROUND SPINNING planet of ours, my birthday is tomorrow... but of course if I were in Australia or NZ, it'd already be today.

That actually kind of shows how ludicrous these things are, but I really do appreciate the messages! I might possibly go for a big birthday hike with Mara tomorrow (see this post (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?93672-Another-vicarious-adventure-and-another-Avalon-Cairn--for-the-Wawa-Grande-this-time-&p=1277239#post1277239)!), and if so, I'll report back with a photo of my own birthday cupcake (or maybe a little piece of cheesecake) ... that is, minus the candles. :)

My very warmest wishes in return to everyone reading this... wherever you are.

Bill, thank you for this amazing place, my ‘alternative’ family, a place where there really is love and compassion, excitement, innovation, exploration, explanation.
Well done ‘marra’, (a Cumbrian term of friendly affection), and also to Mara - the stoical partner in adventure, (who looks after who....?) ;):flower::flower:

How many candles are on that cupcake?

HAHAHAHA I was going to say the SAME THING .. That's so funny!

Just joking, in all sincerity, I wish you a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY Bill.. You give us a home here, you give us your friendship, you share your wisdom with us, glimpses into your life.... You give us space to express ourselves, and to learn and grow.. And you keep the playing field in line.. and as a result, Avalon is recognized openly as that "place to be", or the "Place to go" when you want to know the status of ANYTHING going on in the alternative field.. And not only that, that it is a place where people make sure that truth is held to a high level, and the rest is sorted out appropriately.

I see Avalon differently, I see it as a family that you created, and that you graciously allowed us to join into.. Avalon is your baby, and Mara, your partner, and you give all of that away to us openly and freely every day.. You live the change that you wish to see in the world, and it is very inspiring.. Even if we don't say it much. I think most of us would agree about this assessment of you. And just how wonderful that you are to each and every one of us..

I for one, DO celebrate having you in this world..

SO HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my friend, I am better for having passed you along the way in this life.. Here is to many more wonderful years to come!!

HAHAHAHA I was going to say the SAME THING .. That's so funny!
It was a toss-up between the chocolate cupcake and some of Bill’s favorite foods that aren’t available in Ecuador. See Bill’s funny story below. Maybe a few of ya all can bring some of those munchies to the Avalon Conference (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?105631-An-Avalon-Conference-31-March-2-April-2019&p=1268494&viewfull=1#post1268494)?

https://i.imgur.com/5ZSda5P.jpg

Bill’s Back Story:

Thank you so much! (Maltesers... I forgot about those! OMG   )

* A funny story, btw. A few years ago, I was in exactly same situation in Switzerland. Then an English guy, who'd booked for the 2009 conference we held in Zurich, drove all the way there from the UK and gifted me with an ENORMOUS huge giant crate of Marmite and Branston Pickle. It was enough to last me a couple of years. I so, so, appreciated that!

NOTE - Bill may want to weigh in based on this part of the post:

PM me your address and I will mail you..... marmite and Branston pickle. the Land Rover might be a bit trickier, but I’ll lend you my jeep! We have a lot of British products here in the us. Even Maltesers!

Thank you so much! (Maltesers... I forgot about those! OMG   )

The problem is that I only have a maildrop in the US: no way of anything being mailed to me in Ecuador at all apart from by super-expensive FedEx or DHL.

But to make things work (sort of!), a friend here who's a retired flight attendant, and gets to fly free, makes monthly trips to and from the US, bringing back goodies and things that just can't be found here. That's quite a godsend sometimes, especially for supplements and also lightweight bits and pieces of specialized electronics.

She charges $12/lb of stuff — which is a pretty good deal for most things — but it's hard to imagine anything more dense and heavy than Marmite and Branston Pickle. So I do appreciate the offer! But I might have to gratefully decline, because of the costs I'd need to pay.

February 23rd Zodiac - Pisces

As a Pisces born on February 23rd, your imagination, intuition and selflessness are amongst your most defining qualities. You have an active and creative mind, which you use for a variety of purpose, one being to find the best in people and situations.

Is February 23 a cusp?

The February 23 zodiac people are on the Cusp of Sensitivity. It can also be referred to as the Aquarius-Pisces Cusp

What are the cusp signs?

Zodiac Cusp Signs. ... The definition of a cusp sign is a birthday that falls on the time when the sun leaves one sign and enters another. If you were born on the cusp, you may technically be a Cancer, but you feel like a Leo. Or your lovely, lazy Libra may have a little bit of Scorpio's dark, driven magic.

At least the UV must not be too bad with such fog. Like a water world isn't it?

What is that orange thing on your forehead? I cannot resist, I have to tell: I think you look like an orange dolphin - only the beak or long nose missing lolllll

With this fog it must be so so meditative like.

Must be quite fun experience altogether.

Mara is simply beautiful.

Actually, the UV peaked yesterday at 16 (45% above 'extreme'), and I was 6,000 ft higher than the measuring station. So it must have been super-high up there, at least for a short while. Foggy days don't always make the UV any less intense.

http://projectavalon.net/UV_levels_23_Feb_2019.gif

The 'orange thing' (a dolphin, yes, I love it) is my new wraparound UV-protection goggles, in their first mountain trip. They were just perfect, and my eyes were really comfortable in there. :flower:

Here's another selfie, minus Mara. :) They look ridiculous, but they really do work! :muscle:

That's a really cool picture Bill, so different from the walks I take with my dog in Florida! Looks like the surface of Mars.

At least the UV must not be too bad with such fog. Like a water world isn't it?

What is that orange thing on your forehead? I cannot resist, I have to tell: I think you look like an orange dolphin - only the beak or long nose missing lolllll

Actually, the UV peaked yesterday at 16 (45% above 'extreme'), and I was 6,000 ft higher than the measuring station. So it must have been super-high up there, at least for a short while. Foggy days don't always make the UV any less intense.

:muscle:

thanks for the blown up pic of the glasses. Their function is much more obvious.

I can easily imagine an Amazone Indian who has never seen civilization or a white men, meeting you with these and being adamant that he met an ET, in this case here literally falling from the sky, out of the fog. lolllll As long as you protect your eyes, it is great. I wish I could see Mara with a pair for dogs, both of your together with those glasses. It would be quite a trip.

I hope you had a good birthday up there.

Happy belated Birthday Bill!

So what kind of feedback do you get from the locals while wearing these glasses? I have to admit, I spit my coffee across the room when I saw the pics! It is a testament to your ego (or lack There of) wearing those.

Hoping your birthday was everything you wanted it to be!

Then two days ago — OMG! — it happened again. And I'd barely left the house. Go figure.

I'd been for a short half-hour local hike with Mara that morning (my normal routine), and spent the rest of the day at my desk. By about 4 pm, my eyes were really hurting, blurry, and tearing up. I couldn't understand it.

The cornea has a thin protective layer over it, 6 cells thick. Mine had just completely burned off. But before it all evaporated it'd done its heroic job, and my corneas and retinas, all shielded behind it, were 100% undamaged.

I spent the best part of three days in the dark (during the daytime), emerging at night like some nocturnal creature. And even now, over a week later, I'm wearing dark glasses indoors. Even my computer screen is too bright. It really was a lesson well-learned.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I tell this story against myself... of course, those stories are always the most entertaining. (For others, that is!)

Just today I learned that the Ecuador Meteorological Service had tweeted out emergency warnings — for that very day — that the UV levels could reach 15. That's ridiculously high for areas where people actually live, a couple of notches higher than 'extreme'. The Education Department was also warning that schoolkids shouldn't be out in the sun without protection for more than 10 minutes, assuming an UV level of 'merely' 11.

That day I was out for 4 hours, between 4,000—6,000 feet higher. Mad Dogs and Englishmen, as the old song went. The UV level was well over 20 up there. And it was a perfect storm, so to speak, because the crazy-high wind meant I couldn't wear my leather hat, which would have disappeared off towards the Pacific Ocean within seconds.

Thanks Paula- I knew why Bill was wearing the Frog glasses, my question was true curiosity about how an Ecuadorian might have perceived the Gringo in the crazy glasses! Lol.
