Not a ufo. Sorry! :(

It was a Genesis satellite returning to earth from it's mission of collecting solar particles.
It's parachutes failed to deploy after reentry.

NASA
A capsule containing particles of the solar wind lies partially buried in the Utah desert after crashing Sept. 8, 2004. It was supposed to deploy a parachute and be caught by helicopters.

Soon after the Genesis capsule crashed, a Blackhawk helicopter landed nearby.

Im not buying the NASA capsual cover story.
This is clearly the Alien race depicted in the documentary Batteries Not Included.
They think we're stupid :)

This is correct. You can hear at 0:55 that the military narrator, clearly tracking the object, says: we do not see a drogue 'chute.

Thanks guys for clearing that up. Also thanks Hurritt Enyeto for reminding me of Batteries Not Included. Gotta watch it again. It's on BitTorrent - look for kidzcorner.
