View Full Version : censorship in avalon?

Vidya Moksha

My last post to this forum was deleted by the mods.

my post previous to that was locked.

its ok to slag off kerry here, obviously, but I cant ask if members were banned.

when i ask about what being in the mists means my post was removed.

this is a worrying time in avalon.

i would like answers please, rather than censorship :mod: :mod:

A thread was removed just now.
I have contacted the moderator involved in private and received a most unsatisfactory reply.
I requested arbitration by another moderator.
We have some imbalance here.
Would another moderator please step forward to assist with this?

I closed one thread of yrs for inciting a feeding fest against a member.....Another mod closed & moved yr second attempt at making an issue
and now you are posting a third thread on the same issue.....it really leads to the conclusion that you are far more interested in controversy than being in compassion with your fellow members......Don't be surprised if this one gets closed & moved as well.....: )

hi VM

i think he was just given some time to reflect on many hints and warnings (i believe) he chose to ignore - not about what he put but how he put it...it happened as i was exchanging lines with him on this thread:

http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?1803-you-are-not-sick-you-are-poinsoned-..../page2

as you will see, sam was probably on his best behaviour there, so it has to be something else elsewhere...maybe because it sounded a bit as he was promoting a remedy by his colleague...

Well before it does, let me disagree with you.

You still havent answered what it means to be in the mists.

I have no desire to be dispassionate towards fellow members, and you are talking about sam here, i have supported him throughout, hardly a lack of compassion.

banning him, on the other hand is compassionate?

my posts are valid, you still havent explained whats going on.

Samarkis.

Please step aside on this issue.

I will accept the judgment of another mod.

I fear in this case, you are not having a good day.

Both Vidya Moksha and I started the thread out of concern for Sam's status on this board.

I have stated this to you in a private message, yet you continue to interpret our messages as negative.

One thing you ARE right about: THIS thread IS negative - it questions the moderation our concern for Sam's status received, followed by a deletion of a thread that followed the closed one.

Please stand aside and I'll accept the judgment of another. And no apology is necessary, as someone recently told me.

¤=[Post Update]=¤

Where did Sam go?
And why is asking that question to be moderated to the point where threads about it get deleted?

Samarkis
3rd May 2010, 08:46
Thank you for yr level of respect....however Samvado is NOT banned....
I would like to re-iterate that you are all making more issue than sense ....and it is you that is having a hard day......

Forget personalities here.

we all have scorecards now about our behaviour? what's that about

YOU STILL HAVENT SAID IN OPEN FORUM what it means to be in the mists... why wont you take the simple step of doing this?

blocking and deleting posts is a sure way of getting attention... we want to know why

Vidya....1st of all ....this is not an open forum(We are open minded.....but this is not a behavioral free for all)...it is an invitation only and according to guidelines of higher behavior......it can be rescinded if we deem it causes issues.....and that does include possibly you .......There are other mods here on at the moment and it is being discussed.....(@ threads etc, closing) You cannot pick & choose yr mods......
Now, in the mists is a term we use for a cooling off period and we have been debating to call it something else....however it is temporary if the person watches their behavior....Members are to behave as guests.....and I can tell you, I don't think I'd invite people that cause controversy instead of PM'ing a mod @ an issue that bothers one......especially when it's not your issue (it is another member's issue)

when i ask about what being in the mists means my post was removed.
Interesting, could it actually be just another forum glitch? Anyways, let me answer this one for you, since the Guidelines don't seem to mention anything like 'The Mists Shall Not Bet Mentioned':

The Mists Of Avavlon is a forum set up by PA1 members who were unhappy about the developments at the time it was decided thet PA2 will be set up and it would be invite only. You can find quite a few members of PA2 posting there, myself included, some of them actually the denoted PA1 'troublemakers'. It is generally slower then here, nothing dramatic going on over there. The main difference is that it's completely open, much lower-key and doesn't seem to experience the same 'glitches' as PA.

It currently resides at http://www.themistsofavalon.net/

:) "possibly you" is that a general warning , or a veiled threat ;)
I like to keep my posts relevant and useful here...you gonna ban me now too lol

my posts were valid, censorship is a valid issue, and if you dont post the rules how can we act by them? And it is everybody's issue, we need to know how the forum operates. Now i dont understand how somebody can watch their behaviour from the mists? can they say i will be good now, please let me back in? Also the points raised need to be done in open forum, not in pms.

I understand that some posts have crossed and I may have unwittingly upset someone who invited me here into this forum, and a same someone who is trying hard to help in here, and we both know that is something I didnt want to do.

I think the mists is a terrible idea, by the way. but who cares what i think?

update, i wasnt referring to the post below, i wasnt bringing up the subject of other forums in here...
(but its an interesting notion, lol, if we misbehave there is a forum waiting for us naughty children ;) )

Hi all,

I have just come back on, I was on earlier and HORIZON ask on the 'you are not sick, you are poisoned' thread what is 'in the mists' after seeing Sam there.

Here was my reply:

'In the mists' is where members go to reflect, in this case, Sams communication style, He has been PM'ed by mods over the past weeks to be more tactful when replying to posts. He has continued to post in a style that is not in the spirit of AV2. He is on 'read only' for 3 days to give him time to reflect on his communication.

This is an invite only forum, where members are asked to participate using friendly and constructive behaviour. It is ok to disagree but being respectful is required.

Sam has contributed some excellent material here and we hope he will reflect somewhat and return with a better communication manner.

ok...back on topic...

Ross.

Now Sam is not banned. He will return if he wishes to in 3days.

This forum is invitation, you are asked to participate in a friendly respectful manner under the guidelines, the spirit of AV2 and Bill Ryans vision.

ok thanks folks i have house guests and we have just woken, so would prefere to chill with them .....but..... where to start, i have pmed you vidya, i hope you now understand. as for starting threads on other members this is just disrespectful, i agree the whole mists thing is a bad idea, it should have been changed....however it essentally read only and is implemented when folk have recieved warnings etc but we would not like for them to be banned. this is what has happened, there is no censor ship just methods of keeping the peace......the question i would like you to ask is this......did you enjoy the last few months of av1? i didnt and have pleadged my time and effort to making av2 better and a nice place to hang out in, so yes a thread has been moved, i moved it......i have asked for some time to see what has been going on and would appreciate for folk not to jump on the band wagon.

THE MISTS IS READ ONLY.......but i would prefere if this was not used and for a members status to be left unchanged as i feel it is an embarrasing thing for someone to have as their status.....am i makeing sence? so the admins are not on yet, and when they are we will seek to have this sorted.

i have been in communication with samvado several times asking for calm, i have no ill feelings towards him, he posts some super stuff, and am aware of how he can be reactive, i will do my best to get things back on track, and i would like to say a huge thanks to sara for helping to calm things when i know she needs sleep

love m

Oh for the love of god grow up!
The mists is a term i coined last December for members who are NOT banned but set to Read only. Its a "timeout" , you know like what parents use with their unruly kids?

So to clarify
Mists = read only (usually because we appreciate the members contributions and don't want to ban them)
Unsubscribed = banned (usually permanent but not always)

So move along now, lest ye be misted too

:)

I think what Avalon is trying to provide is a forum for ideas and near ideas to be exchanged. And by Avalon I mean all of us. The material brought fourth on this site is controversial and subjective. For me it's a chance to learn what other people are thinking and believing.

We need a narrow framework of etiquette to operate within. Otherwise it can get a little catty, with name calling, oneupmanship and what have you.
We are all posting things here that most people in the world laugh at. Then if we tolerate teasing and post bashing here on the site it becomes Me talking about what I have just posted ten minutes ago and trying to defend my ideas that I may not have a full grasp on anyhow. for example - Why can't I post here what I can not post here? Now we are thinking about and discussing a secondary subject, and not a very one interesting at that.

Sure it's OK to let someone know you disagree with their ideas. Say hey that doesn't fit for me I won't be wearing it home. And BTW if anyone can glean a coherent thought from what I write here, I am not aiming this at anyone.

Some people get a kick out of fussing and fighting on the Inet. And then we get into the "Disinfo" rigmarole. It's all words flowing out into cyberspace, asking us, Are the facts the truth? Or is that the other way around?
I need some sleep, Good Night.

yup , in the process of comparing notes I rekon it's unnecessary and discouraging of freeflowing of insights, information and perceptions , if we tolerate humiliation and name calling, we're all free to choose what to believe according to how the information shared or "offered" sits with us , or if we leave it behind

but calling someone stupid or calling thier point of view some name of ridicule is way uncool , a rather thinly veiled tactic to attempt, through ridicule to agree or be silent

is not for anyone to tell anyone else how or what to think , but we are each responsible for the words we speak and type and the energies set in motion behind them , if you believe in all that stuff lol

As a rule of thumb I tend to think. "What would I say I was face to face with the person who's viewpoint differs from mine?"
Its easy to get brave or foolhardy on line.
Sometimes I forget that I am not having a private conversation with another, anyone on line can view the words.
Its ok to disagree but lets not be disagreeable.
We have this facility courtesy of Bill and I for one respect that and appreciate this forum.
Just my thoughts.

question: it appears the special forums don't show up; unless you are signed in - kind of like a ghost forum ?

answer: Yes correct - you must be signed in to see those. They do not appear to guest users

my comment: thanks; so, in other words, putting me in that section was a good way; to silence my efforts

what a lovely way, to help people, who have spent a lot of time helping you - this is my last post

I don't know who provided your answers but as correct as they may be they are by no means written in stone Susan.
The original concept of the special interests area was to provide a area for members to create their own private forum away from public/ptb scrutiny.
As of now there are 3 members who run forums in there and if the other 2 don't mind having their forums publicly visible it can be easily set that way.
We can continue this by pm if this suits you eX. :)

please remove my forum ~ which in 'light' of 'the way' it was given
as, nothing more than a 'ghost forum' ~ says volumes about the intentions behind this website
i am sure glad, i didn't put as much effort into this,
as, i did with pa/pc - perhaps; you could just remove ALL OF my posts
from both forums ~ the old forum/along with this forum
-this has been an eXperience, that has wasted a lot of my own 'good' time

hmmmm fellow seekers - try to stay in the light of all this - put ego's to the side so we can all move forward together. This is not about competition it is about seeking out answers and understanding to questions we all share. Before you go getting all fired up and press the respond button hastily and spontaneously stop for a mo and in the 'mist' take a moment to catch your breath and ask yourself what side of my brain did I just formulate that response on - was it balanced. Peace be with you all in every step. Blessings.
