Alum Crystals? what does it do

What can Alum crystals be used for ?
This is the first time I have ever heard of them..

Hi! One use i know of is that Alum is used in dyeing wool using natural materials like onion skin, it's used as a 'mordant' which means it helps to fix the dye into the fibre. There are no doubt a million other uses - but hope this helps :)
