Greetings avalonuggets.
I just got back from picking up the sound system for the weekend workshop.
I am going to do the Perth one for the DVD recording.
I had lunch today with Mad Hatter and Mrs Mad Hatter, good to meet them.
This sound system is HUGE.
Can barely get the sub into the boot of the car.
The two speakers take up the whole back seat.
Man, I am going to be able to vibrate the damn room apart! :p
I might even have enough power in it to blow the zoomba class out of the hall.
Just popping out to pick up a prop for the morning.
Can't wait for tomorrows soundcheck.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your point of view, I got little support for my workshops.
I had people promise support and then do nothing.
So, I have this one for the dvd.
Not the venue I wanted, but better than none.
I might do some next year in America. ;)

Not sure how long it will take to become a dvd, it depends on the guy doing the job for me.

The recording isn't up to being a dvd, the powerpoint presentation text isn't readable.

So I have to redo the whole thing.

It looks like I have to book a venue and do it again.

I would rather not do it, than do that.
If anything went wrong, I would end up owing money to people and that isn't honourable.

All I can say is Rob put in 100% at the workshop and it is a real shame the recording quality is not up to scratch. The information discussed at the workshop would have been of interest to some on this forum and elsewhere.

I'd like to thank Lord Sidious publically for putting on this workshop. Despite the sometimes seemingly insurmountable odds against it proceeding I for one am very glad it did.

With a public address system that would have done the average pub band proud, it certainly was an awe-inspiring performance to watch as a string of nuggets, interspersed with the odd carrot, was laid out and the dots very definitely hammered home with a mixture of subtlety and in your face type agitation.

It was also an added bonus to meet and spend time with a bunch of very switched on people any one of whom I would be honoured to consider a friend.

It is indeed a shame that the videos did not work out as planned but the old adage ‘perfect practice makes perfect’ will stand the eventual result in good stead.

The weekend was not without oddities and synchronicities. In the oddity department I missed a call on my mobile and although I don’t normally ring back numbers I don’t recognise I did in this case and was quite astounded when the person on the other end identified themselves as one ‘Adam Bandt’. For non Australians this person is a green party politician for the seat of Melbourne. When pressed for the reason for calling he explained it was one of those phone in a pocket mistakes. Why the hell I’d be an entry on his phone is beyond me as the only time I’d have anything to do with a Marxist like him is maybe volunteer to hold the rope!!

Next oddity/synchronicity was discovering a pile of quartz crystals not ten feet from the outside of the room we were in, a sample of which talked to me at the time and is in my hand as I write.

The next synchronicity occurred on the Monday, since we had time to spend before the flight home we decided to do the tourist thing so travelled to Kings Park which has a particularly picturesque vantage point from which to view the cityscape. Much to our amusement the plaque describing the vista before us happened to mention the East India Company which had been a subject covered in during the workshop.

The final synchronicity occurred at the airport. Having just been to see a presentation covering certain sections of law I don’t know why I did not see this coming. When funnelled through to the metal detector / bag x-ray point I dutifully emptied my pockets and separated the laptop from its bag placing all on the conveyor belt. On the first attempt through the metal detector I was knocked back and when asked if I had anything in my pockets, to which I replied just a crystal, I was told to step back through remove my belt and try again. Have duly placed my belt on the conveyor on the second attempt I was knocked back again.

I was starting to get alittle bit annoyed by this stage and the snooty look from the security women did not go down well as she said try again, this time without your cap. I made a counter offer to strip completely naked if it would help end this bloody charade. Without the cap I apparently passed muster. This makes me think it was more about being secretly photographed as there is definitely no metal in that cap!!

This exchange must have been picked up by the x-ray bag scanner lady who decided to join in on the game so grabbed my laptop bag and put it through the machine again for ‘closer’ inspection. Lifting it in such a manner as to break the zip.

None of this had done anything to improve my temper, but not to be outdone, as I was getting dressed again and repacking my belongings into pockets etc. A third woman informs me I had been 'randomly' (yeah right) selected for an explosives handling test.

She asked if I had been subjected to one of these before, to which I replied no. She then handed me a card stating I could read it or she would explain it to me instead. Before I’d even finished the first sentence she asked if I agreed to the test. I pointed out I hadn’t finished reading and proceeded to read the rest of the card aloud. Interspersed with comments such as what happens in Canberra where you can legally buy fireworks.

At this point she suggested I tone it down as the police where standing behind me. ‘Huge mistake’...I pointed out to her that despite the Gestapo uniforms those goons where public servants and here to serve me so I had no problem with that.

At this point she freaked out an called over her manager and the two goons had shuffled closer. He asked if I was refusing to agree to the test. I asked what would happen if I was to which he replied I would be escorted of the premises and went to take hold of me at which point I informed him if he laid a hand on me he would be charged with assault and one of us could end up being seriously hurt. Interestingly enough the goons turned their backs so they couldn’t be held to account as witnesses.

He then stated “So you are refusing to take the test.” To which I replied that is not what I am saying. I have a flight to catch and will take the test but only under duress and I want you to acknowledge the fact that it is under duress. He acknowledged that and so I let it go and proceeded to be whisked over with the explosives sniffer before proceeding on my way, happy to be leaving the police state known as Western Australia but only to return to the police state known as Victoria.

So once again Lord Sid thank you and don’t for one minute think the workshop experience failed to agitate this little black duck, it happened in spades....

Now to put the the Victorian minister for energy on notice regarding smart meters. :cool:
