With unique access to Islam’s holiest city, National Geographic’s Inside Mecca follows three Muslims from very different backgrounds as they embark on an epic five-day reaffirmation of faith and quest for salvation Inside Mecca captures the look and feel, spiritual uplift, claustrophobia, grandeur and grit of the largest annual gathering of Muslims in the world.

“Inside Mecca focuses on the personal stories of the hajj,” says Anisa Mehdi, producer and director of the film. “Through the various viewpoints and experiences of the participants, we follow not only their physical steps but the spiritual and emotional stages of this all-important voyage.

We want to show viewers around the world the remarkable experience of the hajj: that it is at once deeply personal and widely universal.” One of the five pillars of Islam, the hajj is required of all who can manage it at least once in a lifetime.

Each year, Muslims from all over the world travel to Mecca to praise and give thanks to God, to ask pardon for their sins and to renew their spiritual commitment through an elaborate series of rites and rituals.

I found it very interesting to see how we all, each in our own religion or beliefs systems, are looking for the same thing, namely love, brortherhood, faith.

Although the rituals are sometimes different from religion to religion or from beliefs to beliefs, the basis is the same, there is, in fact, no fundamental difference between Christians, Muslims, Jews or Buddhists or even atheist. We are all the same.

I truly enjoy the respectful and inspiring video I just saw. Thanks One.

If the temple ever gets rebuilt in Jerusalem without WWlll resulting, we will see blood run like it has seldom been seen outside a slaughterhouse. Well, some would see it.

I pray that scenario never happens. I know others pray just the opposite.

I loved Hajj. I lived in Jeddah Saudi Arabia for several years. It was a very interesting time, and the food was my favorite part. I so miss the Suk and all the smells and experiences. Great people, I felt very safe in SA.

I understand that the sheeps slaughter is repugnant. However, this is meat sent all over ther world during the coming year, not lost at all, feeding many in poor countries. It is much more human this way, as done during hajj, believe me, than in any slaughter house existing in North America, yet we still eat meat in North America, the only difference being that we do not see the killing.

Having been raised near farmers, I understood that it is what being a meat eater is about. Having lived in Turkey, I saw sheeps being kept in the garden of the condo apartment for this purpose during hajj. Because it is for hajj, the animal while alive are well treated. No surprise for me either there.

Well, the other way is being vegetarian.

It will happen and not that far away, I think.
They have the sanhedrin back.
They have the cohanim back.
They have their vestments.
They are only missing the red heiffer.
And they are trying to use GM to breed one, but every single one comes out with some imperfection.

It is a hollow structure, a building, that used to house all of the idols worshipped there before Muhammad arrived with Islam.
As far as I know, there is nothing in there now.

The black stone of the Kaaba is reputed to be of extra-terrestrial origin, and was worshipped at the Kaaba before Islam. It symbolised the moon god, Hubal, whose name was spoke as Allah during worship.

Widdershins circumambulation of sacred objects is wide spread, going counter to the apparent movement of the earth, and in accord with the orbits of the planets. Some muslims will rationalise it as keeping the clean (right) hand to the Kaaba, but I would disagree with that explanation.

The Ka'bah black stone was apparently sent from paradise and given by Gabriel to Abraham. Here is a rare look inside the Ka'bah:

Very good site (http://kabahinfo.net/default.aspx)about the Ka'bah.

It seems so funny that we stereotype people of one belief to be similar, yet it is surprising to see that they are so different and yet so similar.
