Hope everyone has a great Easter with friends and family.
Here is an interesting article all about Easter and I am asking the question what does Easter, especially Easter 2012 symbolise to you?

Easter is a pagan festival. If Easter isn't really about Jesus, then what is it about? Today, we see a secular culture celebrating the spring equinox, whilst religious culture celebrates the resurrection. However, early Christianity made a pragmatic acceptance of ancient pagan practises, most of which we enjoy today at Easter. The general symbolic story of the death of the son (sun) on a cross (the constellation of the Southern Cross) and his rebirth, overcoming the powers of darkness, was a well worn story in the ancient world. There were plenty of parallel, rival resurrected saviours too.

The Sumerian goddess Inanna, or Ishtar, was hung naked on a stake, and was subsequently resurrected and ascended from the underworld. One of the oldest resurrection myths is Egyptian Horus. Born on 25 December, Horus and his damaged eye became symbols of life and rebirth

Here is a video that takes William Blake influenced lyrics, takes the narrative of Snow White, which of course is very Easter like with its theme of death and rebirth. Avalonians may be interested with the apple (very Garden of Eden like!) that puts people to ‘sleep’, as being awake or not is a constant Avalon discussion.
Joseph Campbell can be related to all this with his theory there is a structure to Fairytales and Mythology that relates to song structure. Basically there is one story and one song, but with 1000s of faces. He actually worked for Disney who of course sourced much of their material from 'open source' fairytales, Snow White is thus been returned to the source.

So happy Easter again everyone and thanks to Walt Disney, William Blake, Joseph Campbell and Persephone.

errrrrrrr Happy Easter? Trying to share the love here

My Mate was 4 years old, and her mother had just dressed her up for Easter Sunday. She was even given a little purse to carry, empty but pretty. That glorious morning, she wandered out into the fields behind her house, fields alive with bee balm and wildflowers and the buzz of spring bees. At a certain point, the light became incredibly bright, the sounds of the bees grew lounder, and as she looked up, a Being of Light stood suddenly before her. It was garbed in a robe, shining bright white, with a hood, and emanated the most intense vibration of unconditional love. They stood there communing for some time, and then the Being vanished, and the light and sounds returned to normal. My Mate recognized this Being as the same one who had appeared to her two years prior in invisible form, proclaiming from all directions, "I am always with you!" As she walked back to her house, she thought to look in her purse, and inside she found 3 shiny new pennies that had not been there when she first walked out into the field. For her, it was the most delightful treasure!

Great story Bob as ever,

I always find synchronicities with your stories, bees have great symbolic meaning for me and the being garbed in a robe, shining bright white, with a hood, and emanated the most intense vibration of unconditional love sounds like someone I would like to meet.
I Have not watched the video yet but am intrigued and will watch later
Easter is indeed a special time with fantastic energy, I find it interesting that on a spiritual forum there is not more acknowledgement of this time of the year that has been honoured by our ancestors for 1000s, indeed 10000s of years.

I miss celebrating Easter back home in Europe, we actually celebrated Easter on Monday, not Friday. What I miss about it most is getting wet. It was a tradition for the boys to come to the homes of girls they knew and before getting them wet they would first whip them with woven branches and then they would chase them with a bucket of water. Now, that was fun. My father would be the first one to get me wet first thing in the morning, that really pissed me off. I used to get better every year running away from the guys. And then for getting beat up we, the girls, would have to give the boys decorated eggs. Then neigbours would visit each other, and by the end of the day they would all be drunk and sick from all those delicious foods that our moms prepared.

I need a time machine right now, I want to travel back to the past. Those were truly fun and great times. I am lucky enough to have experienced traditions that were fun and harmless, and everyone was looking forward to these wonderful times I will never forget.

Jesus Christ Superstar- such an amazing musical.

Actually you draw attention to an important point, I was viewing the whole days of death and rebirth as Easter and they are refered to as the Easter holidays but perhaps I should pay more respect to the Christian view of Good Friday.

The Friday before Easter is the most solemn day for Christians - it is the day on which Jesus Christ died on the cross. This day is known as Good Friday, Holy Friday, Great Friday or Black Friday. As such, Good Friday is a day of mourning, and all the ceremonies and rituals of the day are centered on the feeling of sorrow, at the pain and humiliation that Jesus underwent for the cause of goodness and humanity. The message of Good Friday is that the dictum of "an eye for an eye" cannot work. The way to conquer evil is through good. Similarly, violence can be overcome only by non-violence and hatred by love.

I have great respect for Jesus but I would not call my self a christian but that last quote ' "an eye for an eye" cannot work. The way to conquer evil is through good. Similarly, violence can be overcome only by non-violence and hatred by love.' I am with 100%

I heard "Jesus Christ Superstar" back in high school before seeing the movie; so, I'll tell you that using my imagination while listening to it made it better for me. Heck, I even went out and bought the record because I loved the songs. :becky:

But what I particularly remember is how many of the oldster-Christians took offense against the whole thing! As I see it, it was telling the story in a way that appealed to most young people.... It succeeded in spite of the complaints...

Ah Brother, our capacity to conduct the Current is about to greatly expand, many feel it even now, but we need to cooperate in this process for it to bear full fruit, which is Divine Translation.

Happy Easter to you all good people.

I have always struggled with the story of Lord Jesus because of my deep distrust in the machine.

I have just wept thanking him for his sacrifice, not sure what happened, never felt like this about JC, dont want to analyse this one.

I will just say thank you Lord Jesus :-)

I refuse to have a Happy Easter while Christianity is still stuck in the past and refuses to reform itself in the light of modern knowledge in the sciences and the humanities. If Christians claim that there is no contradiction between Christianity and modern knowledge, then there should be no compunction in contemporising itself in the light of knowledge. My comments are directed at the Roman Catholic Church. For this reason, as well as others, I am no longer a practising Catholic.

I think you will find that this thread has nothing to do with the Roman Catholic Church which in turn has nothing to do will the Christ,
