View Full Version : Singin' In The Rain

Well, it wasn't so much singin, like Gene kelly did it, but it was similar. We had our usual round of afternoon summertime thunderstorms roll through last evening, and I up and decided to go out and join them.

The deciding factor was that there was no real close lightning, just heavy rain, combined with that deep rumble of electric energy up in the high cloud tops. I love that sound, that vibration btw. You know, god bless my understanding wife(LOL). She didn't even bat an eye when I informed her around 6:00 in the evening or so, that I was grabbing a cold brewsky, and going outside to stand in the driving rain, and watch the storm.

Nature really does have her own language, and whenever we can manage to be sensitive enough to listen for a message, it's well worth it. Strangely enough, leaning against the front of my truck in the front yard in the pouring rain, where the neighbors could finally confirm their suspicions of my sanity, this weather event told me a story.

The pelting rain and deep rolling thunder were an exciting part of the story. Then, gradually giving way to a light pleasant rain, and the thunder a distant echo, told another part. And then gradually, the peaceful cool rain gave way to the sun shining hot once more, with birds singing merrily.

Actually come to think of it, it wasn't a story, it was a lesson. What the lesson was is still rather obscure, as it was more at a cellular level. But it's one of those things where, when it happens, you "know" something has happened. Something you would do well to pay attention to.

Maybe what I'm trying to get at here, is that everything we could possibly ever need is all around us. The Grand Illusion tells us otherwise, but try it for yourself. Next time you have a good rain, show your neighbors how nuts you are by going outside to commune with it.

A light raindrop bouncing off your nose, at the right time, can tell you more than any book ever could. This is an ancient language, and sacred relationship, that we have forgotten. But don't believe me, try it for yourself.http://nexus.2012info.ca/forum/images/smilies/newadditions/smile.gif

Glad to know I'm not the only nut that loves to be out in storms...preferably barefoot.

Seemed appropriate:

Sung by Walela...

~Wash your spirit clean~

Give away the things you don't need
Let it all go and you'll soon see
And you'll wash your spirit clean
Wash your spirit clean
Go and pray upon a mountain
Go and pray beside the ocean
And you'll wash your spirit clean
Wash Your spirit clean
Be grateful for the struggle
Be thankful for the lessons
And you'll wash your spirit clean
Wash your spirit clean
Give away the things you don't need
Let it all go and you'll soon see
And you'll wash your spirit clean
Wash your spirit clean

Yes Fred, I love the rain too. I just travelled in the last two days from quake recovering Christchurch, over the main divide and down the rain forest of the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand. The rivers were raging torrents and the waterfalls were spectacular. It rained most of the way, a magic trip!

It's the first time that I had driven through the centre of devastated Christchurch. I did not want to see familiar land marks reduced to rubble! Anyway, my daughter insisted so we did! The tears came automatically and by the time we were half way through we were awash with tears. It's just like a war zone and there is much more buildings still to be demolished! There is a strong spirit there that is asserting itself and the rebuilding is happening but the devastation is appalling. We ignore nature at our peril! Sad thing is they knew the likelihood of liquefaction and went ahead and built on it anyway.

Sorry to wander off the subject somewhat! The rainy, friendly, west coast renewed us very well, as we carried on our journey.

I know what you mean Carmen. Back in 2004, there was Hurricane Charley, that was coming right up the west coast of Florida with his 145 mph(233 kpm) winds. Even just a few hours before landfall, it was predicted to go right over our main house, plus our then week end place on the river, which is now our full time home. We actually voiced our solemn goodbyes to our "little place" as we still call it, because if the storm wouldn't have taken a last minute hard right turn away, our little place would have been blown and washed away to the four winds.

As things turned out, we wound up loading up with food and water for the people that wound up getting Charlie's brunt, about 100 miles(160 km) to our south, and heading there to help who we could. Talk about awash in tears...Trailers wrapped around stripped Pine trees, houses buried in debris, powerlines down everywhere, people wandering around with dazed looks in their eyes, State National Guard patrolling, etc.. Yes, a war zone.

And all that was supposed to be for us...To lose much, or lose everything, to start over either way... Not sure what that means to the discussion either Carmen, but who cares? My rain story was just one small example of something that happens to all of us, all the time. The question is do we take notice or not. My Hurricane Charley story, and your devastated Christchurch story, are just the more glaring examples.

In our spiritual seeking to find what we truly are, many can get lost along the way in the quest for experiences which they believe represent the spirit that we are - such as experiences of calm, love, joy, bliss etc.

The truth is what we truly are is always here present in this moment even in the most stormy and thunderous moments.

Nature is ever our pointer to this. The same life force always present in the calm and the storm, the sun and the rain, the night and the day, the ebb and the flow.

There is only this here now and it is all perfect as it is, however it may appear as I think your experience in the storm showed you, Fred :)

I miss the east coast for the thunderstorms and nice beaches with warm water. Here where I live now a thunderstorm is cause for alarm because they start fires so it kind of squelched the magic. Thanks for the memories.

I was right in the center of Hurricane Isabel. Seventy foot Pine trees swaying like blades of grass in the wind. I remember driving over 30' sand dunes that covered the road to the marina when I went to check on my boat. People were fighting over bags of ice at the supermarket and all the traffic lights were out for over a week.

Thanks, noxon medem.

I just love that Gene Kelly vid. Talented guy. (Not too hard on the eyes either.) I had a mad crush on him when I was young.
