It's a meditation. Each round brings new understandings.

Above, the solar system revolves round the sun, and below, the atoms of our bodies work the same way, the sub atomic particles spin round a central nucleus.

This from the Wikipedia article on Hermeticism: "The microcosm is oneself, and the macrocosm is the universe. The macrocosm is as the microcosm, and vice versa; within each lies the other, and through understanding one (usually the microcosm) you can understand the other."

However, I've seen other hypotheses on its meaning. E.g. that certain pyramids are scaled to the diameter of the planets they represent.

Some fishermen say it means what is in the sea is also on the land ex: humans and mermaids, sea horses and horses, dog fish and dogs and some people say that what is on the earth is in heaven. I think it means different things for different people.

"As above, so below; as below, so above."--The Kybalion.

The great Second Hermetic Principle embodies the truth that there is a harmony, agreement, and correspondence between the several planes of Manifestation, Life and Being. This truth is a truth because all that is included in the Universe emanates from the same source, and the same laws, principles, and characteristics apply to each unit, or combination of units, of activity, as each manifests its own phenomena upon its own plane.

I would sum it up like this, short and sweet. A single cell, a human, a planet, a galaxy. All the exact same thing, just on different scales.

William Blake knew a thing or two concerning this:

To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.

you could look at Santos Bonacci for an explanation.

As above we have dysfunction universal civilizations/families, so below we have dysfunctional countries/families. :fencing:

But alas humanity has the key for peace within. Then the phrase will change to. As below, So Above. :grouphug:

Take any plant, and pull it up by its roots. Dry it out, then seperate the above ground matter from the below ground matter. Weigh them. They will weigh the same. When we see a plant with twisted limbs, the roots have struck a rock or other obstacle below the ground, and this is reflected in the above ground growth. A plant will grow tall if it can sink a deep tap root. The hormone contained with the apical meristem of a plant (where it grows from) is exactly the same hormone that is contained in the tips of the roots (where it grows from). Leaves and roots branch in the same pattern.

And that is just plants.

Physical reality is possible because the interaction between positive and negative poles allows order to be formed out of chaos. This process follows the same pathways and principles regardless of whether we consider the very very small, or the very very large, so it follows that what is found in the very small is the same as what is found in the very large, what is found above ground is the same as what is found below ground, and so on.

It is nothing more or less than one of the fundamental truths of physical reality.

I believe there is more to it, though. "As above, so below. As within, so without."

There are as many answers as there are perspectives. There are some great ones here. :)
