LOL, how about personal pictures, favourite poems, selfies etc as a way for people to know one another and who we are talking to on a more personal level … just a thought ...

Please not Andre Rieu, so sad for me - my late father's favourite - just let's say we are all still going stronger and stronger, more awake, and are spreading positivity.
Thank you to everyone, and thanks to Bill (and Kerry) who catalysed us!

I think 50k “intellectual bullets” is a bit high. At least 2/3 (.6666667) of mine are as worthless as this one.

I was compelled to start it not only for the 50 thousandth-ness of this, but because I saw an upside-down 666 in the 49,999…the beast has been sucking in my attention lately…

Personally, I'm not too into André Rieu. Anything you like by him, I would suggest you find another recording. But that waltz was by Antony Hopkins, who died only a few days ago. I remember listening to him many years ago talking about music on the radio. He was very good at conveying the excitement of classical music without getting over-technical, and will have given a lot of pleasure to many.

Some positive movement has happened since Avalon's first thread.

My sister community where i will be spending my birthday next month has a wonderful heading in this article.

http://themindunleashed.org/2014/02/island-scotland-first-100-self-sustaining-place-earth.html

Island in Scotland to be First 100% Self-Sustaining Place on Earth.

25862

Virescent mountains, verdant valleys, and clean energy. Sound like a scene from The Sound of Music or a fictional novel about utopia? It is neither. It is in fact, the description of the one place on this planet that is about to be 100% self-sustaining – Scotland’s Eigg Island. Eigg has a pristine landscape, a broad array of sustainable strategies and gets over 90% of its energy from renewable sources. Along with its witty accent, the Scots offer an example of how to live well, without fossil fuels and rampant ecological and environmental degradation.

More Here: http://themindunleashed.org/2014/02/island-scotland-first-100-self-sustaining-place-earth.html

Holy crap TMBG might be geniuses. I stopped listening to them in high school, I guess thinking I “outgrew” them…forgot how good they are—and never really thought much how they are friggin’ profound, here’s a (relatively) new one I never heard:

CSPv8tXISsU

And holy cr@p....just the title of this one:

OI6Qdoq679I

This one I used to listen to when I was kid, but has a whole new meaning:

gO5iUDBK7TA

There’s only one thing I know how to do well
And I’ve often been told that you only can do what you know how to do well
And that’s be you
Be what you’re like
Be like yourself
And so I’m having a wonderful time but I’d rather be whistling in the dark...

A little trivia: It would probably take less than 100,000 minutes to listen to 50 thousand TMBG songs

Alright, sorry I couldn’t help myself, a little nostalgia got a lot of mind-blown mixed in, enough TMBG fellating: now back to your regularly scheduled 50 thousandth thread, carry on….

Not a complete hoax, just a case of mistaken identity: the man who died last week was the musician Antony Hopkins, who composed the piece André Rieu was playing in the video I was referring to. The actor will just have to wait.

About André Rieu...
I know all about the criticism that he receives, but I don't think it is just criticism.
André Rieu isn't in it to reach for technical perfection, but for emotional perfection, so André Rieu and regular classical musicians are in different leagues in a way.
André Rieu just aims to make a great show where people can have a good time and music is the main ingredient in that show.

It's a bit like the difference between the French and Italian cuisine.
French cooking is all about making the chef shine and Italian cooking is all about making the food shine ;).

I understand (I think), but I have to disagree. Taking your analogy, for me the French chef is André Rieu. But I won't deny he gives a lot of people a lot of pleasure and I respect that.

After 50,000 threads, what has Avalon really achieved. Some lives have changed, some perspectives have changed. Many stories and music have been shared. But has Avalon really changed anything going on in this fuc@ed up world? Some entity's
have tried, but they seem to have come and gone. It would seem like there is some real soul searching to be done and a lot more work. It seems more like a social club to me. Sorry if I offend here but I like to be honest with my thoughts. I feel Avalon is bigger than sharing music and cute animal pics. Of course I maybe lost the agenda along the way.
Sometimes it is more ego against ego, and who has the biggest IQ. I feel when that happens so many people are intimated. Language can cause people to be afraid to post, or many other communication issues. I my self am dyslexic,
And posting takes a lot of time to re check my spelling. So that makes me reluctant to post. Ok I'll shut the hell up now. I love Avalon I just wish sometimes it had more meat and potatoes about what is really going on in the World. And when the likes of eg the amount of aboriginal women who have gone missing in Canada, which is close to 2000 maybe with all the incredible minds here on Avalon we as a collective could do something about it. But all I see is people massaging there own ego's. I don't observe any action all I see is talk!! Peace gigha

Well the difference in thread counts is a private subforum that was formed in an attempt to do some action, though how successful (or how much in the "spirit of Avalon" the idea of exclusive groups is)...it is/was is difficult (for me) to say.

Just to give another example: In the "psychic attacks" threads, which is not as private (but is members only, I think) we are asked to report our psychic attacks, though when I asked what the action "behind the scenes" supposedly mitigating the situations, I was met with hostility and almost "attacked" just for asking, so for that one we are to take it on it faith that the information we provide is actionable intelligence for the "good guys", but unfortunately we are not privy to the actions being taken.

In a lot of ways Avalon is a lot like anything else (as above, so below). We strive to be better, but often sweep issues under the rug, show lack of self awareness when emotional immaturity and herd mentality rear their ugly heads, and tolerate a less than completely transparent administration...as apparently, that is the nature of the beast.

It's a work in progress, just like ourselves. But the best of intentions are there, so truth will prevail as we strive toward creating a reality full of openness and honesty, learning from our mistakes, taking personal responsibility for our actions, one thread, one post, one thought at a time

Thats pretty negative … and judgmental, and not wholly deserved. You cannot know what people here are doing in their personal lives to take action. This is an internet forum where people talk … and yes, sometimes about lighter, more personal things, maybe even get up to a bit of tomfoolery at times … thats what people do when they socialize around a cause … a way to get to know each other …

As for the "meat and potatoes" discussions you think this forum is lacking … I just browsed the first couple of pages of threads … a minimal amount in the "50,000" threads … let alone postings/articles/information in those threads … it seems to me that its about 90/10 ratio on real issues and the "fluff" of socializing that seems to annoy you

Here is a short list of issues brought up in just like the last 24 hours on this forum:

Volcanos
Waterboarding
Weather manipulation
Bees
Indigo children
OBE’s

NSA surveillance
Government corruption
Torture

An Internet forum is by definition nothing but a sharing of words and pictures. This is not the opposite of action, it is a specific form of action. Just think of all the outrageous experiences that people here can share, knowing that they are not immediately shunned as they llikely would be anywhere else. This is doing both the tellers and the listeners unknown good, not least because it is an attitude that spreads out from them, and out from the forum to its silent audience as well. Once this lengthy process reaches a tipping-point, then the action can take place, is already taking place, in the outside world to reflect this modus vivendi.

Perhaps you haven't noticed that there are categories and subcategories that allow for a full broad range of different types of topics on this forum -- with the intent they will be used for a diverse range of topics from "off-topic" to "lighter side" to "financial news" to UFO abductees, etc. So there are some whole categories dedicated to non- meat and potatoes topics. I may concur though that people should care a little more where they start their threads.

Also, On the all talk comment -- this is a written text forum. It is ALL talk, that's what forums are for -- discussions.

There have been several threads over the last year or so on the topic on the horrible treatment, genocide, and missing aboriginals -- perhaps not enough exposure for this topic, but you could easily start a thread on it instead of merely complaining. No one is going to get upset with you because you are dyslexic and make spelling mistakes - there's plenty of those here (dyslexic people) - just get it out in the open and people will be understanding.

There is some of what you say here -- I see that, but consider we see what is filtered through our feelings and beliefs. Cheer up! Its not that bad ;) Just because you didn't like my song .... ? :P :P

I'm a nobody, with no exciting specific features, qualities, or experiences that are "special"... I probably drink a bit too much, heh. ;)

LOL ME TOO!!

Peace gigha

So sorry for my response. I foolishly had taken some meds from my Dr for a fever, and it messed with me a bit.
Not sure about the song you talk about but please message it to me. Unless you are making a joke and I just don't get it.
Peace to you.. And I would agree a bit more cow bell would help :drum::drum:

No apology needed Gigha, and the song comment was a joke -- I was referring to the cowbell rock song I posted in response to the Christopher Walken clip. ;)

Have a great long weekend!
