Part One: The Forced Disbandment to the Second Home Ecovillage Project from Yunnan Authorities (http://lifechanyuan.org/bbs/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=6647&extra=page%3D1)

China's Largest Ecovillages, the Second Home of Lifechanyuan, had been illegally but successfully forced to close by the Yunnan Authorities from April 25th, 2013 through April 1st, 2014. One hundred and thirteen permanent residents of the Second Home ecovillage project, part of the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN), had been given notice to vacate but with no offers of assistance or compensation from the Yunnan authorities.

As the largest ecovillage project in China, the core values of the Second Home are to revere the Greatest Creator, nature, and LIFE, to walk on the way of the Greatest Creator and follow the way of nature. The ideal of our communities is to create a new life mode where people, nature and society can coexist harmoniously, and where nobody worries about their survival needs of food, clothes, shelter, transportation, birth, aging, sickness, and death, and everyone will lead happy, joyful, free, and blessed lives. People here live together in a big harmonious family and all resources belong to the community. Everyone can choose one job to do and contribute to the community to best of their ability and everyone’s nature and talents can be fully utilized like blossoming flowers. This is a fairyland full of sincerity, kindness, beauty, love, and trust. Through creating and building such a new life mode where people, regardless of their nations, political parties, cultures, ethnicities, and families, can live together happily, harmoniously, and freely. The Second Home is leading a life that accords with the earth’s sublimated consciousness and walks into a higher civilized level with other like-minded individuals and communities throughout the world.

The values and life mode of the Second Home had been monitored by local authorities throughout its establishment and development, and they had sent government officials from local departments to come and investigate us many times. Finally, after ten years observation online (our websites) and five years development of the community life, they still worried that one day our community would develop into an ‘illegal organization’, and regarded us as a potential threat to the stability ofChinese society. This caused the forced disbandment event.

On April 1st 2014, after the last two Chanyuan celestials withdrew from Yunnan, the three branches of China's Largest Ecovillages 'the Second Home of Lifechanyuan' located in Anning, Chuxiong, and Lincang city had been illegally but successfully forced to close by the Yunnan Authorities since April 25th, 2013.

Part Two: The Evacuation Process of the Second Home Ecovillage Project

During the time between the withdrawal and the beginning of rebuilding, no extreme or adverse events happened. The government gave us no monetary compensation or relocation allowance. They did not make things difficult, though. Everything was done in a friendly atmosphere and the evacuation process of the Second Home proceeded in a very orderly way. Among the 150 people, mainly women, children, and elderly, those who were able, had left the community and had gone out to work in society, and those who still have homes in which to return, had returned home. The rest of our members who were homeless came all the way across 5,000 kilometers to the Gobi Desert in westernmost China to build new homes, beginning in January, 2014. There are only a few shabby houses; no toilets or shower rooms, not even kitchens or dining rooms. In February, 2014, we found another opportunity to develop a large ecological project with fifty acres in the east. We will engage to develop a new ecological garden by cooperating with its land manager. We will give up establishing a new lifestyle like the Second Home in China at this stage, and change the project direction to organic farming and ecotourism, etc.

Dozens of elderly members' lives have been properly arranged and all children have been sent to local public schools. At this stage, our three new settlements are in the stage of rebuilding, and eighty Chanyuan celestials are involved in the construction. The names of our three new homes are: Kataier (http://lifechanyuan.org/bbs/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=211), Gesaer (http://lifechanyuan.org/bbs/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=210), and Nanhua Farms (http://lifechanyuan.org/bbs/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=212).

Part Three: Inviting Global Permaculture and Natural Farming Experts to Give us Guidance the New Settlements of the Second Home Ecovillage Project (http://lifechanyuan.org/bbs/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=7055)

The new settlements of Second Home community of Lifechanyuan have a total of 600 mu (100 acres) of land. We are hoping to implement permaculture and natural farming principles to transform the lands into fertile farms which are able to produce high quality and healthy organic foods, but because we lack practical experience, especially with regards to the knowledge of plant characteristics, we find it difficult to carry out the production and other work in an effectively way. We therefore cordially invite global permaculture and natural farming experts to come here and coach us.

Two of our properties which are called Kataier and Gesaer Farms are located in Xinjiang Province and one called Nanhua Farm is in Jiangnan. We expect to begin our first work in Xinjiang. The main challenges will be to grow the right grasses, crops, and trees on the saline-alkaline soils, and to reverse the desertification of the land. This is a dry area which receives almost no rain throughout the year, and the irrigation water is mainly from underground aquifers and from rivers. In the long run, we should consider how to reduce the exploitation of these aquifers and rivers in order to maintain the balance and sustainability of the ecosystem. We should also consider how to reduce or eliminate the use of the chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and to produce healthy organic foods.

Part Four: What We Can Offer

Because our community has just encountered a serious blow, our financial strength is very weak, and anyone who is willing to teach us must note that we are not able to afford your travelling expenses or to pay any consultation fees. This is all volunteer work, however we are able to take care of your local transportation, accommodations, and meals. Because our community is a 100% resource sharing community, you can use any material resources while you are in residence here.

We look forward to volunteers who are selflessly dedicated to the sustainable development of humanity coming here, that they will coach and guide us on the implementation of permaculture and natural farming. May the Greatest Creator bless us!

Hi Jena,

Glad to hear everything has been sorted out and that your group is moving forward.

Maybe the Hangzhou Permaculture Education and Research Center might be able to point you in the right direction:
http://www.hzpumen.com/

Article on them @ Permaculture News (PRI) here (permaculturenews.org/2013/07/16/hangzhou-permaculture-china/).

Also maybe try the Permies website (www.permies.com/t/10841/asia/PDC-China), the Itinerant Permaculturists (http://i-permaculture.org/), the Panya Project (http://www.panyaproject.org/) (Thailand), your own sister organisation the Konohana Family (http://www.konohana-family.org/) in Japan and there's some information on eco-villages in China available here (http://genoa.ecovillage.org/index.php/country-activities/china).

Also, here's some groups in Thailand who might be able to give advice:
http://www.tacomepai.com/
http://www.punpunthailand.org/
http://www.raktamachat.org/

I don't know a great deal about Permaculture in China which is why my suggestions are a bit vague. I reckon that the Hangzhou Permaculture probably wont be able help directly though from what I've heard they could probably suggest people who might be better situated.

John D. Liu's greening deserts in China (and other areas) might be inspirational for you and your associates (though the documentaries are in English so might need translating for the non-English speakers as you all watch them):

YBLZmwlPa8A
Lui's short documentaries:

J5_0Ph8xxg8
Liu's sites:
http://www.whatifwechange.org/

He also wrote an interesting article on vocational training here:

I hope this was useful.

Hi Jena,

Glad to be of some limited assistance. As I said I'm not overly familiar with Permaculture groups in China though do know that there have been large land remediation projects undertaken along the lines of Permaculture farm land regeneration practices. These projects are designed to try to decrease the massive erosion, salinity and desertification problems faced in some regions. Unfortunately, due mostly to language barriers, I'm only familiar with a small number of projects that have been undertaken over the last decade or so.

Good luck to you and your groups.
Kind Regards, :yo:

Your info is enough for me, thanks! When sharing our news on other webs, I found some small but mature farms run well in China, though they may be only for families, it makes me feel a little relieved that many Chinese people also begin to make Mother Earth better.

I'm still searching and posting our invitaition on more webs. The conditions in our two farms are very basic and a little poor, I pray to God and wait for HIS arrangements. http://lifechanyuan.org/bbs/static/image/smiley/default/22.gif
