Think you aren't being fooled by advertising tricks?

This is really good, don't want to say too much so as not to give too much away, but the audience reaction is as interesting as the content.

Did you know that the word "fresh" in australia has 2 different meanings?

To you and i the word fresh means picked from the tree and in your hand the same day, beead straight out of the oven, etc

When the word fresh is used commercially, it means the goods can be stored for up to 9 months and as long as they look, smell and taste "like what you expect "fresh" to be" ... It is "fresh" - legally.

There are so many different tricks. Like "free range eggs" are not free range unless they have a specific labell on it that noone knew (untill this show) that they meant different things.

Excellent thread! I haven't watched Tiga's vids yet, but Dorje's was great, though I have to be careful as I likewise don't want to ruin the 'punchline'. There are alternatives in the US, but one has to be willing to do research, legwork, and a reinvesting of their resources and in some cases, sign a binding contract.

Local farmers are all over the countryside who would likely love to sell a quarter or a half of cow. Specifically, individuals who's livelihood depends on their word and reputation will tend to be pretty open about allowing a buyer to see the premises and animal conditions. You can meet the animal, interact with it, even develop a relationship and regularly visit with it (prior to,...). Also, if the farmer(s) is(are) not already aware of the preponderance of GMOs, that becomes a perfect opportunity to educate.

If a buyer is on their door - cash in hand - saying "GMO-free grains and grasses or I walk", that can present a pretty compelling argument even before any actual information is relayed. Genetic Roulette and other such materials can be loaned and/or copies made (sorry Jeffrey Smith, but I do!) that will allow them to look up information on their own and not feel pressured to make a decision on the spot. The interviews and testimonies from professional/generational farmers can have a more significant impact than 'this uppity guy' also; you didn't really think I'm only obstinate online did you? ^_~

Ultimately people need to be willing to go beyond the supermarket for their needs; if willing, there are always alternatives. Add to that the overwhelming increase in quality. Sure, one has to be willing/able to buy 4-6 months of meat and store it rather than buy in increments, but that's what freezers are for.

That first vid, (and likely the others) could equally apply to the "Human Animals" thread.

Excellent OP video.

We all know this, but it helps to be reminded that we all know this...

TigaHawk those vids were brilliant, with actionable guidelines and ideas to avoid marketing ploys and shenanigens. This thread is an excellent resource and implicit advocacy for local and/or responsible consumerism. Families and individuals who are not active producers can't help but purchase their foods and resources and there will always be those who don't pay attention and/or don't care, but for those who seek an increasing standard of quality and viability these videos are a very succinct resource for positive direction and progress.

Thanks for introducing me to the checkout, they are funny and so true. The more you analyse the predatory and hypocritical behavior of corporations and government the more insane and surreal you realize they are, sometimes you feel like crying and getting angry but laughing at them and trying and expose them can be a very effective tool and it can make you feel better.

Embedding this one the Unilever girls, I recommend people check them all out;)
