Finally a site where you have a voice in whats being placed in our food . Where we can petition companies to remove the countless toxins in our food, by forcing them to reveal the harmful additives and have them removed through petitions.
This lady is on a roll and we all need to get on the band wagon, and for once and all expose, and change the practice corporations use to disguise harmful addictive additives in our food to increase sales.
The hell with congress who enable the corrupt lobbyists to allow this to go on. Take action and sign these petitions. we have the power, and we get immediate results without the bureaucracy.

As a beer drinker, I have been really enjoying micro brew and artisan beers from little to unknown breweries. Ultimately, I would love to get the point of full on brew-it-myself from my own grown hops and grains. I am actually beginning to fully dislike big name beers; not just the bad rap I have been hearing about additives, but a hand crafted beer most often is just that much more enjoyable. Big names seem to take pride in how much the can get their beer to taste like water, wth? Beer is supposed have flavour, and a vast variety of nutrients; something the "big brands" can't accomplish at all anyway even if they tried. ;)

My 2 cents ;)

Seems like big name beers are akin to soda, full of crap.

My brother's been brewing his own beer for several years now. He makes a good stout. Home brews and artisan beers are meant to be experienced and savored. They are not beers to over-consume (tastes and goes down like water) which is anti to the goal of the big brewers -sell, sell, sell!

The petition while being noble in purpose is barking up the wrong tree. The ATF is the one who needs to be petitioned to require brewers to post ingredients AND petitioned to allow nutritional information to be placed on beer.

I used to run a brewery as the brewmaster and was in the industry for many years. The ATF and DOJ has forbid brewers from putting nutritional stats and ingredients on beer. Why? Because they know how nutritious beer is and they don't want this "dangerous substance" to gain in popularity. It is considered a controlled substance and if people know that beer contains B6, B12, Calcium, protein, magnesium along with carbs they may consider it a food and not a drug. Microbrewers have been trying to change beer label requirements for decades. It took a long long long time just to be able to list the calories.

Information is power and I find it ridiculous that government is allowed to censor information like this.

Anyway, support your local brewers!

Guinness!

A meal in every glass!

I always assumed guinness was pretty good too. Then I found out it contains GMO high fructose corn syrup and also fish bladder. The fish bladder I'm not so concerned about but not very ethical considering how many vegans and vegetarians probably drink it without knowing.

High fructose corn syrup, no thank you.

Strange, from not taking any alcohol ever, I have been craving beer! I have taken to drinking a small amount of Paulaner Weissbier which is supposed to be "pure"?

I have been a Newcastle Brown Ale drinker for over 10 years now until it made the top of the list of beers you need to stop drinking immediately.....apparently it has several colourings in it that are known carcinogens! I immediately switched to Smithwicks Red Ale ......very tasty!

"Strange, from not taking any alcohol ever, I have been craving beer!"- if you've never drunk alcohol whatsover and are now craving beer (beer contains alcohol, by by the way) why do you post a statement about craving beer if you've never drunk alcohol?

The question that comes up when I shop for organic whether it’s corn or anything else is, “How can I be sure in these times where corruption is rampant and profit is goal one?”

By comparison, there are few farmers left to grow organic corn or anything else wholesome. I have much respect and gratitude for them. Dreaded thoughts for these farmers can’t be too far away with the ‘big bad wolf’ dragging them into courts for cross pollination of fields, or laws with layers and layers of stupid speak.

It’s all designed to bankrupt the multi-generational farmers by wearing them down emotionally and financially. Profit and control are their main objectives. (at one level of the game)

I can't explain why she posted it ;), but I have found that cravings are often linked to the body's desire for certain nutrients, although I wonder if that would extend to foodstuffs the body has never ingested ... it may well be possible, if we consider the higher self that takes care of many autonomous body systems, is not bound to physical atoms, and thus can "see" outside the body.

Just a thought. ;)

If I craved beer, or the smell of beer triggers desire, I’d consider some of it’s ingredients and ask if:

I lacked essential vitamins, mineral, and/or enzymes.
If I had a sugar imbalance.
If I’m under a lot of stress, then the brewer’s yeast may indicate the body signal for B-complex vitamins, chromium, and selenium.
Is there an issue of candida overgrowth that causes the body to crave sugars and starches.

Candidia, Alcohol, Sugar Cravings (http://www.caringonline.com/eatdis/reports/nutrition/sugar_cravings.html)

“…The symptoms of candidiasis, and their severity, vary from person to person but the main ones are: chronic fatigue, especially after eating, depression, craving for breads and sugars (yeast eats sugar), extreme mood swings, feelings of rage, especially after eating sugary foods, feeling "drunk" after eating a meal high in carbohydrates (candida's waste is alcohol), …”

Why We Crave (http://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/why-we-crave/)

“Julia Ross writes in her book, The Mood Cure, that if you are low in amino acids or if they are not functioning properly in your body, you can crave foods. She states that if you are low in the amino acid L-tryptophan, which is needed to produce serotonin, our natural Prozac, you may have afternoon cravings for carbohydrates, alcohol or drugs. If you are low in endorphins, our natural chocolate or heroin, you may crave comforting or numbing treats or “love” certain foods, drugs or alcohol. The amino acid DLPA will often eliminate comfort-food cravings, at least for a while.”

Brewer's yeast (http://umm.edu/health/medical/altmed/supplement/brewers-yeast)

Brewer's yeast is often used as a source of B-complex vitamins, chromium, and selenium. The B-complex vitamins in brewer's yeast include B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B5 (pantothenic acid), B6 (pyridoxine), B9 (folic acid), and H or B7 (biotin). These vitamins help break down carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, which provide the body with energy. They also support the nervous system, help maintain the muscles used for digestion, and keep skin, hair, eyes, mouth, and liver healthy.

What's in Beer (http://science.howstuffworks.com/innovation/edible-innovations/beer1.htm)

As we learned in the introduction, there are four main ingredients in beer: barley, water, hops and yeast. Each has many complexities. We'll start with malted barley.

Malted Barley

Barley is the seed of a grain that looks a lot like wheat. Before barley can be used to make beer, it must be malted, which involves a natural conversion process.

“…During the germination process, enzymes released by the plant convert these nutrients (which are starches) into sugars that can feed the plant while it grows. The key to the malting process is to stop the germination of the barley at a point when the sugar-producing enzymes are present but most of the starch is still unconverted. Eventually, these enzymes will produce the sugars that will feed the yeast to make the alcohol in the beer.”

Wikipedia: Ingredients in Beer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer)

The basic ingredients of beer are water; a starch source, such as malted barley, able to be saccharified (converted to sugars) then fermented (converted into alcohol and carbon dioxide); a brewer's yeast to produce the fermentation; and a flavouring such as hops.[45] A mixture of starch sources may be used, with a secondary starch source, such as maize (corn), rice or sugar, often being termed an adjunct, especially when used as a lower-cost substitute for malted barley.[46] Less widely used starch sources include millet, sorghum and cassava root in Africa, and potato in Brazil, and agave in Mexico, among others.[47] The amount of each starch source in a beer recipe is collectively called the grain bill.

I think the tables are going to turn, and rapidly with tech like this hitting consumer hands:

is Smart Cup Knows What’s Inside of It (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?62082-Technological-advances-that-will-directly-affect-you-in-the-next-2-years/page3)

once we have containers that can tell you what is in it... the lies (or at best obfuscation)will crumble.
