Weird but beautiful. Not that I know what a volcano under the sea would look like but doesn't quite seem to fit.

My imagination says volcano also. After all, the under ocean volcanoes are heating up the planet.

Wouldn't explain the greenish glow though odd effects might result one supposes. But if that were so should this not register on these seismic charts? I know nothing about vulcanology - or even of that's the right word.

One of the reasons why the Red Sea got its name (and omitted from Wikipedia) is because of that red glow seen by sailors at the bottom of that sea... chain of submarine volcanoes all along its median line (Red Sea rift (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Sea_Rift)).

As for the green stuff it may be similar to the "Green Flash (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_ray)" optical phenomenon.

I've never heard of the colors of green, light pale blue or white from a volcano. I posted that I thought it was an USO ET mothership or base below surface. I can see if the colors were just red, orange or gold or yellow, but white, green, blue? Ah ah..Base or Mothership below surface. If it was volcanic, it wouldn't be just sitting there, the stuff would be bubbling, wouldn't it? Any geoengineers here?

Strange lights have been spotted near the Russian peninsula of Kamchatka (image by Dutch pilot
JPC van Heijst). The sighting was made by pilots flying from Hong Kong to Alaska. The glow came
about 20 minutes after a vertical lightning bolt was seen.

http://yoursmiles.org/hsmile/alien/h0124.gifTwo pilots reported seeing a strange but beautiful underwater light show while flying near Kamchatka.

The pair first spotted the phenomenon around five hours in to their flight from Hong Kong to Alaska. It began with a sudden intense flash like a lightning bolt in the distance before a red and orange glow could be seen permeating the ocean about 20 minutes later.

There were no storms in the region at the time of the sighting and neither of the men had ever seen anything like it before.

"Last night over the Pacific Ocean, somewhere South of the Russian peninsula Kamchatka I experienced the creepiest thing so far in my flying career," one of the pilots, van Heijst, later explained in a report about the incident. "The closer we got, the more intense the glow became, illuminating the clouds and sky below us in a scary orange glow, in a part of the world where there was supposed to be nothing but water."

One possible explanation for the spectacle is that it could have been an underwater volcano.

Both pilots admitted to feeling "anything but comfortable" for the rest of the flight but despite their encounter with the unknown they made it to their destination safe and well.

Perhaps an unusual reaction with the Fukushima radiation contaminated Pacific waters? :-(
