Air traffic controllers have been unable to explain a peculiar aircraft contrail photographed by a member of the public.

The shape of the trail - which turns one way, then quickly back again - suggests the plane it came from made a sudden detour as it flew over Hampshire.

Teacher Florence Lehmann spotted it as she left her home in Southsea at about 7.20am.

Miss Lehmann said: "It's really weird. It looks like the pilot sneezed or fell asleep. Somebody said a UFO had been spotted recently in the area and the pilot had tried to avoid it, which I quite like the sound of.

"There was no wind this morning and the plane actually moved trajectory."

A spokeswoman for Nats, the air traffic control company, said she could not explain why the plane changed direction.

She said: "Unfortunately Nats has no knowledge of the purpose of any given flight and we do not identify individual aircraft to members of the public."

Last week a grey spherical object was photographed in the skies above Portsmouth.

The Met Office reportedly said it was not related to the weather and some believe it was a UFO.

Did todays chemtrailers get bored and decided to make pretty patterns instead?!
Well if nothing else, it may get people looking up at those weird 'contrails' a bit more often now...

Another strange contrail:

Strange contrail - my guess is an IFR holding pattern, or an Air Force tanker waiting for customers

Interesting that the fact that it is a chemtrail isn't the focus of the article, just the swerve of his spray...this seems to be another example of the media conditioning the public to their existence..."A passing UFO must've caused the aberration of that utterly normal streak of pristinely white chemicals that were spewing forth over our heads from a passing airplane that no one can identify!".

I've seen many (especially upstate NY) chemtrails that seemed to veer off and back, even zigzags...much more exciting than this one, yet no media ran with it, leading me to my conclusion. (Unless this chemtrail pilot was avoiding a mid-air with the other pilot who was responsible for the fading chemtrails in the background...)

p.s. These aren't contrails, which are made up of condensation and dissipate quickly. "Persistant contrails" seems to be the safer language being used when dealing with public officials about chemtrails. lol

Chem-trails can be made by drone planes-unmanned...no pilot on board. Remote controlled.

Persistant contrails, that's a great term! :)

Yes my thoughts exactly Cursichella1, two doses of conditioning administered ever so matter of factly in one small article!

...Dont look up, nothing out the ordinary to be seen here! ha :p

Ha...in that case, it was two drone controllers momentarily reliving their teenage xbox 360 days...
